Sun Bum is reef safe compliant in Hawaii. One of the best brands imo.
My pasty family gets Walmarts equate brand for our annual 2-week trips to Florida. It's about $3 a bottle and as long as we reapply often enough, we never get burned.

Is it mineral based or chemical based? Don't wish to use the one with benzenes. Please share link if you could. Thanks and reps.

This - I just added a twin pack of 5.5oz sunscreens for $7.88 that will be included in my next walmart+ grocery order. Those instacart drivers are at my house 2-3x a week and my time in grocery stores is down to 2-3 hours per month.

We are planning a trip to Hawaii and considered buying on Amazon to save some dough, but doing some research we are told to wait till we get there and go to Costco to buy the reef safe brands there. Some sunscreens that say they are reef safe but are not and will be confiscated if found in your luggage. Prices at Costco are very competitive to the sale here at Amazon, so I am going to wait and buy there when we land.

I have always wondered this. What is the downside to wearing a higher SPF? Are they thicker, greasier, or some other downside? I guess another way to understand this is to ask why some opt to get the lower SPF, is it to be able to get a little color while in the sun?

100% excellent post. Thanks for doing this.

This is why in civilized countries, sunscreen manufacturers aren't allowed to advertise SPF beyond a certain number (70 I think? Depends on the particular country). It gives people a false sense of "security" and/or product effectiveness. For example people might think that SPF 70 is >2x better than SPF 30, which is not even remotely the case.

More chemicals that may cause issues for some people and some are bad for the environment. Some places have banned a few as they damage coral reefs for example.

So look for safe for coral reef label and use the lowest number that works. 30 is the best coverage to protection ratio IMO. Still in the upper 90% range but less chemicals than those over spf30.

What happens? You break out in hives, it just gets clumpy, or.. It don't matter?
