Just FYI for others who watch that video, the carbon shaft model doesn't have a variable speed switch, but the trigger itself is variable speed. Just don't pin the trigger and you can get it spinning nice and slow for fences or whatever else you're working around. I'd personally save the 4lbs weight and get the carbon one. I have the carbon one, and after 15-20min of weedeating I get tired of holding it and start swapping hands, I feel like the extra 4lbs would make a massive difference (it's a 31% weight increase from the carbon to the aluminum) and make it an absolute pain to use. You can always use a strap to mitigate the weight with any of them, but that's just my personal opinion on them.

Great find!
Amz and Lowes hasn't dropped prices yet.
$249 and $299 respectively.
I'm waiting for ego edger to go on sale. still $319 w/battery at Ace and $179 w/o at lowes.
For full transparency, I believe the 1511T which is the same price ($199) as this unit but with 2.5ah battery is the better deal - especially if you already own other batteries.

Anyone know how these standalone tools compare to the multi head system ego has? I ask because I have my eyes on the trimmer, edger, and cultivator. Seems like the multi head is better than getting all three different tools, but that's why I'm asking.

The guy in the video talks about the multi head system. A previous thread I had on SD was very pro the system.
I just don't understand paying almost the same price for just the heads of these tools, when you can get a full tool for basically the same price even with the batter in many cases! The multi head I think is a bit heavier too.

I'm in the middle of making the same decision and I've landed on buying a standalone trimmer instead of using the trimmer with the multi head system. I think I'd come to this decision regardless, but this is especially true if you are already invested in the EGO battery system. From my research, and I plan on buying the ST1511 as a standalone trimmer + 2.5 AH battery, and then purchase the multi head system with the edger attachment and no battery. I then plan to add the cultivator, pole saw, etc. for the multi head attachment when I see them go on sale. The benefits of having a standalone trimmer, telescoping handle, powerload string capability, lighter battery, are more attractive to me. I'm fortunate because I have the mower and backpack blower which both came with 5 AH batteries so I understand if you're not in the same position. Just wanted to add my two cents since I've being doing the same research for the past few weeks.

Now you have me second guessing my purchase!
In defense of my decision for buying the 1511T:
I already have two 4 ah batteries and think I would prefer a 2.5ah battery for the string trimmer to save on weight and it sounds somewhat better ergonomically. I also did buy the strap.
The 1511T has a rotating handle that apparently makes edging easier. You can add a handle on the 1523S too for $25.
Telescoping, which I don't believe this one is
I thought the aluminum is lighter but I could be wrong
I prefer buying from Amazon
The price was $15 cheaper (not a huge sway one way or the other)
This deal is getting a lot more love on SD than the other one though, so maybe I am wrong. I sometimes think people just prefer the "savings" they are getting by getting the 4 Ah battery cheaper than the 2.5 Ah one rather than focusing on actual practicality. Or I can just be way off on my research. I have never held either in my hand.

I didn't watch the video but went through the same thought process - it felt like for the cost the individual units were a better deal, and if you bought them at a good time with batteries it was significantly cheaper than the powerhead and adding all the individual tools. You'd have to do the math, but adding even an extra battery or two with the powerhead system puts the cost well above and beyond buying it all piecemeal. And if that powerhead ever dies...seems way more likely than having separate tools.

$230 shipping for me. That's ridiculous. Is it coming on a semi-truck by itself?

Same, I missed it when it went to $140 last year. It hasn't moved from $179
