Just FYI for others who watch that video, the carbon shaft model doesn't have a variable speed switch, but the trigger itself is variable speed. Just don't pin the trigger and you can get it spinning nice and slow for fences or whatever else you're working around. I'd personally save the 4lbs weight and get the carbon one. I have the carbon one, and after 15-20min of weedeating I get tired of holding it and start swapping hands, I feel like the extra 4lbs would make a massive difference (it's a 31% weight increase from the carbon to the aluminum) and make it an absolute pain to use. You can always use a strap to mitigate the weight with any of them, but that's just my personal opinion on them.

I've had mine for two summers now. Battery is starting to go already. I used to be able to trim 3/4 of my half acre lawn on a single 2.5ah battery, now I'm lucky to get halfway. I have the carbon fiber model and it still gets heavy due to the awkward angle you hold them.

Do you think it has to do with the quality of the battery? Do you bring the battery inside after each use and in the winter once the season is over? It can get quite hot/cold in sheds/garages which isn't great for batteries.

I have Ridgid batteries that are 6-8 years old and still work great. I would expect the same from Ego batteries considering they won't even be used 6 months out of each year.

I was going to buy an expensive Ego or Dewalt Trimmer because I was also looking into a Chainsaw from either brand. But I picked up the Hart string trimmer for $50 at Walmart. I first thought it was going straight back to the store because I didn't like how it let 1/4" string out every time you release the trigger and it would get to long and hit the guard. But I decided to use it two days ago and it wasn't a problem. It worked well enough to get everything I needed to do finished. They have a sale right now where you can get two 4ah batteries + a tool for $99, so I might get the 12" 20v Chainsaw also. Too bad it isn't one of the tools included with the two batteries.

What's your thoughts on that?

I have the EGO Power+ ST1521S and love it. I do not use it for edging because it's too awkward to hold and not destroy the lawn for edges. It is very light due to carbon fiber shaft. I also use with 5ah batteries because it came with my multitool that came with Edger and trimmer combo. I don't use the trimmer multitool because it is very heavy imo. I only got multitool because I needed the Edger, saw attachment, and maybe cultivator. All ego tools that do not come in stand-alone form. Keep that in mind. Not all EGO tools are available as stand-alone options. So the Multitool is a requirement if you ever plan to expand your options outside of mower, trimmer, blower, and standard saw.
Hope this helps!

I have the standalone without the power load and the multi head with edger and string trimmer.
The multi head is noticeably heavier. Both work well but I prefer standalone for string trimming especially with large jobs.

This is why I don't bother with Ace anymore. They never have it in the store and charge an insane amount for shipping. Think I'm going the Ridgid route anyways given I'm already invested in their batteries and it's hard to beat their lifetime warranty on everything.

I got this trimmer a year and change ago in another deal. The powerhead is nicer than other heads I've used but still annoying. Sometimes it gets jammed up and my experience has been it's more of a PITA to get apart then (I use two screw drivers on either side to pry it open). I have the CF rod in mine and it's still heavy enough that my arms get tired, house is on a steep slope and so positioning is a bit awkward-- should come with mounts for a sling (I should just 3d print some...).

I found the manuals on ego website saying the ST1510T (same tool with ST1511T) weights 7.63lb vs ST1520S (same tool with ST1523S) weights 7.28lb -- so the weight difference is almost neglectable.

Is this clockwise or counterclockwise? Remember seeing people say it was different than normal gas string trimmers in the way it spins.

Half acre here but really not much need for trimming, certainly not weekly. Got one of these and it was overkill so I returned it and went back to my cheapo corded Black & Decker trimmer.

The main reason I didn't like the Eco was because it weighed a ton (even compared to dragging a 50' extension cord around). I gave out before the battery did and the neck cord seemed to make it worse.

When the B&D dies, I'll look at the Hart.

I just bought one a couple weekends ago and this was the first thing I noticed, it definitely spins backwards from my old stihl gas trimmer. Takes a little to get used to that since the trimmer wants to act different. I think it spins counterclockwise but dont quote me on that.

Other might have mentioned but will mention again. The biggest difference is power and performance, the 56v ego and or greenworks 80v are as close as one get to the gas counterpart. If those 18/20v works for you, there nothing wrong with that. Just note that the ego will be many time more powerful.
