Thank you for the PHX flight deal. Do you know if there are any sites that focus on PHX deals? SLC has a couple of sites dedicated to travel from Utah like flightsfromhome.com.

Basic Economy is seldom actually a deal at the price advertised.

Only in limited circumstances when
1) The risk of needing to change or cancel your flight is low (one example is if you are booking very close to when you fly)
2a) You are traveling alone and don't mind if you are assigned a middle seat
2b) You are not traveling alone and are willing to let the airline randomly pick your seats for you at check in with a (smaller but non-zero chance of not being seated with others in the reservation)
3) You are ok with reduced mileage earning from the flight
4) You are ok risking having your carry-on gate checked because of boarding the plane last

A minority of the population may have status or a credit card whose perks offset the drawbacks of basic economy

But, overall, the airlines have years of cancelation probabilities and seat purchase statistics under their belt and have used that to price basic economy such that the house always wins.

Basic economy is horrible. I wish they never introduced it. Like you said, it does work well in some situations, but I would rather have the regular economy at the previous economy price. BE caused them to raise the regular fares.

I have heard the opposite on the go wild pass. 1 of my friends bought it and said it's horrible, no flights avail, etc.

Unless you meant a success for the airline, they yes, they are making money off of it.
