Here we go! LMAO

Maybe we can take politics out of this? If this would be a dangerous product for people, it would have been taken off the shelves. Simple.
The reason it is banned in the government is the same as with China. All politics IMHO

I'd use it in my home over McAfee. If I had a security clearance still, I'd not use it in my home.

China stealing information and them meta-mining data is a real threat. I no longer have to worry about information protection, so it's mostly moot for me.

Because of all the scrutiny Kaspersky moved out the headquarters from Russia and effectively not "Russia" anymore
Kaspersky was founded and is currently headquartered in Moscow, Russia.

U.S. warned about Russia's Kaspersky software
(That said, I'd trust this over McAfee)

It is everybody's choice to be paranoid...

But away from politics,
https://techcrunch.com/2018/05/15/kaspersky-to-move-some-core-infrastructure-out-of-russia-to-fight-... [techcrunch.com]
"Russian cybersecurity software maker Kaspersky Labs has announced it will be moving core infrastructure processes to Zurich, Switzerland, as part of a shift announced last year to try to win back customer trust.

It also said it's arranging for the process to be independently supervised by a Switzerland-based third party qualified to conduct technical software reviews.

"By the end of 2019, Kaspersky Lab will have established a data center in Zurich and in this facility will store and process all information for users in Europe, North America, Singapore, Australia, Japan and South Korea, with more countries to follow," it writes in a press release."

That said, it is everybody's choice to be paranoid...

I've been using Kaspersky for years by stocking up on deals such as this one. Although Kaspersky makes no guarantees that keys will continue to be honored years later, I have successfully used a number of keys that were 3-4 years old. Just keep a list of them in the old passwords.txt file on your desktop and apply the next one from the list when the previous is about to expire. LMAO

As far as Russia goes, keep in mind several things:
  • Kaspersky has been consistently rated among the best security software for decades -- including by AV-TEST, AV-Comparatives, Consumer Reports, etc. People object to Kaspersky's country of origin, not the software's quality.
  • Most of the electronics we buy are made in China, a country that's FAR more into surreptitious surveillance, civil rights abuses, and controlling "private" corporations than Russia is, and supposedly just as close to war with the US. Yet we still give little thought to buying Chinese products that pose an even greater risk.
  • Most security companies, including McAfee and Norton/Symantec, are staffed by current/former intelligence officers. If you're in the US and worried about government surveillance, would you rather risk being spied on by the FBI, CIA, and NSA, which have significant influence over your life, or the Russian FSB with almost no influence? Unless you're a US intelligence officer, I'm guessing the latter is less concerning.
  • Kaspersky, for its part, did move its data centers and core infrastructure to Switzerland, as well as open numerous 'transparency centers' for world-wide oversight to mitigate the concerns regarding the Russian government.
Hmmm...

I meant to say (as Cool Crayon rightfully noted):

Kaspersky, for its part, did move its data centers and core infrastructure to Switzerland, as well as open numerous 'transparency centers' for world-wide oversight to mitigate the concerns regarding the Russian government.

I love the comments from folks with new (10) rep accounts. I'm curious how many here are defending Kaspersky and also have views on supporting TFG. So those of us not wanting KGB backdoor on our tech are paranoid but you are the ones believing in conspiracy theories.

So you trust communist Russia more than Democratic countries. Here is another example of having it too good in the US and saying dumb things. In Russia you will be wiped off of this earth and no one would ever know what happened to you.
You gotta know that Russia isn't communist, right? Like they don't even pretend to be communist how China pretends to be communist.
They're as far from communist as we are

It's sad about the current politics because Kaspersky is one of the best in the industry. ESET is the way to go if you're worried about Kaspersky being Russian software (I would avoid it, personally). That said, Windows Defender is a lot better these days and it could be argued that a lot of people don't need to buy security software for the time being (combined with something like Malwarebytes Free, or even the free ESET scanner). You'll go far just by using Ublock Origin and noscript/notscript in your browser, using common sense and caution about browsing shady sites and even just checking virustotal to put some more eyes on that program you've read about but haven't tried.
I hate to hear claims like this. Are you personally testing these av solutions? How was your testing with crowdstrike, sentinelone, traps, harmony?
