3.0 out of 5 stars Stopped working after 7 weeks
Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2023
Color: BlackVerified Purchase
I bought one of these and it worked so well to begin with, so I bought a second one. Now, both units don't work anymore, and they are past the replacement window. Wow, $110 down the drain! They were great while they worked, but they just quit and won't come on. Bought within a week of each other and quit working within a week of each other!

Edit ... 5/17/2023
OK, I got a new bulb and replaced it, the zapper is working. This is the one I purchased Mar 16th, so the bulb lasted about 6-7 weeks. At $15 per bulb, this is going to be VERY expensive. Lowering my star rating on this due to the expense. I don't mind changing the bulbs, but these cost $44 each, then $15 per replacement bulb each 6-7 weeks, well, I need to find a different zapper that will last longer!! I purchased the second zapper Mar 27th, and the bulb quit at the same time as the first zapper so it only lasted 5-6 weeks! Buyer beware. I bought the first two replacement bulbs at a cost of $22 when I ordered the second bug zapper (luckily), but this company no longer has the bulbs available at the lower cost and they are going on Amazon for around $13-15, which is definitely making this cost prohibitive.

Maybe you can lure the mosquitos by spraying some human blood on there, some sweat, spit, and.. Put a recording next to it of you going "Ahhh so many mosquitos, I don't want to get bit.."

They will come in droves

They do work on flies and gnats. But that's more indoors

Hate to be that guy, but before buying maybe just think about the countless bug lives that get cut short due to these things. They mostly fry other insects.

Mosquitos are not drawn to zappers but eventually fly into them.

Thats a totally bogus claim. I get mosquitos in my office room all the time, I close the door, turn off the lights and use this, zaps em everytime within minutes. We also have two other types of mosquito trappers that use black light, one small outlet one with a metal zapper and another with the fan suction/sticky tape, and you can visibly see mosquitos on each. All indoor use, so whoever doesn't think black light works obviously hasn't tried this.
You are wrong my friend. Just quickly do a Google search. Mosquitos are not attracted to the light. They may eventually find their way in it when trapped in a small area but if a human is around, this thing is completely worthless.

Honest question here: why not just run this when you know that you are going to be spending time on your deck? Is there really any benefit to just running it 24/7 if you are not going to be outside? I mean you are never going to kill all the bug population around your house.

As much as it pains me to say, mosquitos are integral in the food chain (fish we eat, bats that fertilize, etc)

I use Flowtron version, clipped off some of the plastic cage bars and have had mosquitoes get zapped, but not common though like other bugs

I've got these running for years and they've never zapped a bumble bee. Lol. I guess I'm just "lucky". But I'm glad it's killed thousands of mosquitos and flies! I count em up when I sweep em up!

Don't believe the marketing, mosquitoes aren't attracted to light. But tons of other bugs are. The roasting bug smell is absolutely terrible and there is huge mess on the ground. I cleaned and returned mine.

On the plus side, the cats loved watching all the bugs all night long from the window. Makes for good cat TV

Set on a smart plug and only run it at night to avoid killing beneficial bugs. I have yet to encounter any useful bugs at night....freaks come out at night...

After reading the reviews, the biggest concern I had was that the bulb burns out after 3 or 4 weeks. A new bulb costs $15 so that's about 12 bulbs per year or $180/yr for bulbs! No thanks.

You obviously never owned one because it kills them in the hundreds.

I bought this zapper last year on sale for $30. Bought another at $20 just now. Good deal. Good zapper but the bulb it came with only lasted a month. I have this in with the chickens. We have tons of flying pests because of the chickens and this thing kinda works for them. The chickens eat up the fried bug carcasses in the morning. I know you can make your own mosquito trap with a 2 liter bottle but I've never gotten that to work.
