Been looking at these for a while. Is the "Plus" model worth the upgrade?

The dreaded "it depends."

They 4, 4 plus, and 4 pro are all great machines with near identical internals and different cutting widths. Specialty cardstock often comes in 12x12 squares; so the 4 is big enough. Heat transfer vinyl (at any quantity beyond a tiny bit) is sold in 15" and 24" rolls mostly.

Would advise to get the 4 if this is your first toe into this stuff if you're not sure. Reason: lower cost, all features, less desk space.

(edit: the portrait model is even smaller and lacks capabilities of the other machines. don't get)

I bit on the black 12". Now what's the best source for heat transfer vinyl. What else (besides a T-shirt iron/press) will I need/should I get?

I use a combination depending on sales etc… www.proworld.com, www.shopcraftables.com or www.143vinyl.com

Just a heads-up, based on my own experience with jumping on this deal. They shipped my order of the plus model via UPS Ground with *zero* packing material. (I.e., the Cameo Plus box was tightly fitted inside the cardboard shipping box with no foam/paper/anything.) The box looked like somebody released a lifetime of pent-up rage against it, and the unit itself was shredded to pieces on the right-side. I'm putting in a damage claim with UPS and notifying Woot now.

Your experience may vary obviously, but given the way these are packed, I can't say I'd trust the long-term reliability of precision electronics and cutting equpment that's been shipped without proper packing and protection.
