You should test any large SD card purchased for size upon purchase to ensure it isn't a fake, even when sold directly through Lexar and Amazon.

One tool for checking is H2testw from TPLink:

Good price, but just a word of warning on the write speeds for this card - reviews indicate it'll be 25MB/s or less.

Read/write speeds on a microsd card (specifically an a2 card) is very subjective. It all depends on the speed of the transfer source and CPU.

The main thing with these cards is the U3 rating which means up to 30MB/s theoretical which 25 MB/s is very reasonable.

The thing that affect the write speeds is the file size, if you have a large number of smaller files it takes lot longer than one big video file.

That also effects it, but the speed ratings and other stuff written all over the SD cards (class 10, v30, U3, a2) all are also max theoretical values and the hardware you are running will also play a major factor in speeds. So people writing in a review a random number isn't an indication it is an issue with the microsd card

I ordered one for my deck. Seems like it should work and if not for some reason Amazon return works like a charm. *Also checking the product's user-answered questions a number of folks say it works well on their deck.

Nice, how has that been? I'm interested in dual booting windows.. maybe I can create a partition on this micro when it arrives. I got the 64 deck and upgraded it to 256 myself, but already looking for a 1TB nvme upgrade.

Excellent card for storing games for emulation such as PS2, Wii, Game Cube, etc.

windows doesn't work well when booted on SD cards, i wouldn't advise it. from what i've windows writes / reads off SD cards really really rapidly which wears them out fast.

when i was dual booting my 256 i had it set up as follows:

200gb = windows 11 (about 150gb free space for games)

56gb = steam OS (all reserved for OS)
512gb microSD = roms for emulators + all my native steam OS games

the thinking is steamOS games play really well of microsd; i beat the spider man remaster purely off SD card just fine. apparently the way linux is set up it is not as harsh on microsd cards as windows is.

it worked really well but i found myself never booting in to steam OS because i use xbox game pass pretty heavily and i'm less invested in the steam ecosystem. so i ultimately just went full win11. now i use the internal storage for installed games, moved the microSD to my modded nintendo switch and i'm using a smaller 200gb microsd for roms / retroarch

i like it quite a bit. the performance is about the same. batty life does not seem as good, and the OS itself kinda sucks for a handheld vs. the steamOS.

there is a really good guide to get it running here: https://baldsealion.com/

with the tools he suggests it gets win11 in to a pretty damn solid state all things considered

There's a lot of negative reviews when sorting them by newest. I'm looking for a 1tb micro sd card for my steam deck but I don't think this is it. There's a large number of people claiming this card fails after a few months.
