these are about useless going on vacation since you can't flatten the hat. I guess if you have checked luggage you can make it work but difficult with just carry on. And you don't want to be wearing this in the airport

Insane deal. Zappos ships it in an actual box and not a flexible mailer like amazon, which destroys that hat. Yea it's straw so u gotta be careful with it. I bought one last year and it's holding up well.
Buy from Zappos, not amazon, to get a box that won't damage hat.

If you are looking for complete sun protection look elsewhere. The straw weave at the top of the head can be sparse, leading to bald guys getting their dome burned. Speaking from experience. As others said, the hat cannot collapse. if you attempt to do so the hat will be ruined.

These dont last very long. Almost like they were sitting in a shipping container at 120 degrees dryrotting. Theres no give to the straw, so when it bends, it breaks.

I wear a similar hat on my back in the airport and on the flight I hang it from the tray table. It's not so bad.
