For me, the primary reason is for the downloadable maps. This is especially helpful when you are on a trail without cell service, and are at an multi-point intersection not knowing which is the correct route (sometimes trail markers aren't all that clear/obvious, or perhaps it's too early and you're not fully awake yet laugh out loud). I've tried to get away with the free version of AllTrails, and trekked down the wrong path once. Needless to say, I subscribed to AllTrails Pro after the 3-mile detour back to the parking lot.

For me it's downloadable maps and also Alltrails pro will tell you when you go off trail.

For most users probably access to offline maps. I also like trail annotated on 3d Google Earth view for planning.

I have the regular version and a friend has paid trailfork. There are A LOT of trails that alltrails does not have that are on trailfork, which is v puzzling to me and my main reason not to invest in it. If subscribers only get downloadable maps and alerts when you go offtrail, for me it's not worth it.
