You can tell if your phone is unlocked already by checking your settings, general, about,carrier lock status to make sure it says no SIM restrictions. Also noticed when restoring an old phone via itunes it says "your phone has been unlocked". Not sure if that means Carrier unlocked or just the screen lock code was removed. Old phone was Verizon and if I'm not mistaken they automatically remove carrier restriction after you've had the phone for a while.

I'm thinking to make it standalone I need to set it up like it's another family members device with a new eSIM number

I bought mine from eBay on Wed night when the sale started and got the Activation code email on Fri.

Activated the 5GB plan and ported my number. Had to contact customer service because plan provisioned at 3GB on GSMA(Att). took a few mins and they made it 5GB

It's been a while that RP had these promotions. My AT&T $25 plan is coming up due for renewal and RP 10GB plan makes sense only if it's on promotion.
