M1 at Walmart is close to $30/5qt. jug.

Rebate experience has been good. They switched to electronic check a few years ago. However, the rebate amount keeps shrinking, It was $12, then $10, and now it is $6. The price keeps going up. Now the rollback price at Walmart is $26.97 which is $4 more than the old rollback price.
Another oil I have used is Castrol EDGE Euro 0W-40. I got it for $24.47 back in Sept 2021, and there was a $10 rebate. Now it is $28.94. I'll probably wait a bit to see if they do rebate again.

I change it at 5k just because I would do tire rotation at the same time but I know for 100% sure it can go to 10k with ease because I already sent it into a lab to check at 10k and it was still good.
Now what do you get from my comment? The amount of oil level is the MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR, second factor is being synthetic but nowadays they're more than likely all synthetic.
Why people think auto manufacturers want you to destroy their engines is beyond me.
The manufacturer DOESN'T PAY FOR THE OIL so why wouldn't they error on the safe side.
Your local mechanic or oil change place makes MONEY on early changes.
Do people really think they know more than these BILLION dollar manufacturers who have the BEST TESTING EQUIPMENT IN THE WORLD.

How many Millions of cars are sold every year? How many manufacturers say no problem with 10k oil changes?
So by your logic I should see at least hundreds of thousands of bad engines in the junk yard. I also should see just as many lawsuits from customers who were lied to by those manufacturers.
