XPS is the high end professional line (stiffer chassis, better build quality). Most of them come with integrated graphics. Occasionally you might see a 50 series dGPU in them.

Alienware is their gaming line.

I just scored a 13" XPS Plus (Like New) with the 13th Gen 1360P from Dell Outlet for $1044 (with 12% coupon savings). Dell claims XPS Plus with 1360P is twice as fast as the 12th gen. I am not sure about that claim, but I think it should show considerable improvements. Keep an eye on outlet, it keeps coming in and out. Here's the 12% coupon - 725612XPS

But at the same time, I could get a better processor Samsung for around 800 without any coupons.

Regular XPS is too limited in my opinion - only 2 USB C ports. They should've put at least SD card reader. Memory and SD are not upgradable. In general, I never buy a Windows machine with a soldered SSD - it happened to fail and it basically renders the laptop useless (too expensive to repair).
Otherwise, very nice sturdy chassis, but I would avoid the regular XPS line, it is way to limited. If you are going to use it for its intended use as a basic mobile device, just get an MBAir - battery lasts longer.

XPS Plus is having F Keys same as Apple old Touch bar type (not traditional keys)

anyone have working experience with this? as Apple's touch bar itself is a failure and not easy to use

Not as bad. Touch Bar sucked ass. This capacitive bar is fixed function meaning it won't change based on what you are working with. I hated the Touch Bar where I have to look at what it is showing me as it changes based on the app I am using. Reviews online only complained about the fact you cannot turn it off if you were in dark room watching a movie the screen

Poor build quality. Too much flex in the chassis. To the extent that you cannot put much weight (even comfortably resting your hands) of the two opposite sides of the touchpad. The touchpad stop working or behaving erratically then. Same issue if you have the laptop supported on just the center part (like placing on your lap, legs crossed).
Unbelievable given that this is supposed to be Dell's flagship.

Also runs very hot. Not an issue with Dell per se but a general problem with the inefficient Intel processors. The super slim chassis of this laptop just exacerbates this issue.

Are you sure you're talking about the 2022 model? Most review (notebookcheck) indicates that the U processors only get warm under load.

This XPS 13 is compromised in too many ways. Low-power processor, relatively slow and entirely non-upgradable SSD, almost no ports, 720p webcam, all for what gain? Battery life is supposed to be good, but you can get that on other laptops if you throttle the processor this much. It isn't even all that light at 2.6 lbs - I'd rather have a 14-inch laptop at 3 lbs.

Your post makes little sense, in one statement you hate on the XPS because of soldered on components, but you than recommend the MacBook Air, as that device has soldered on components as well. And you fall into a small percentage of people who want user replaceable parts within a laptop

Come on, do you really care about the size diff between 13.4" and 14"? 13.4" with 16:10 is higher than a 14" with 16:9 aspect ratio, and much better for web browsing and for work

I have XPS and I have two MBPro and currently using HP Z station Dragonfly which I highly recommend for a Windows machine. I also have work laptops...several Dell and HP machines. My XPS is put aside and collects dust. It is a very portable machine, but I use an iPad Air for portability. When the XPS was first introduced to the market there was no Windows alternative. However, I purchased mine for less than $600. In my own experience, the MBPro and MBAir have equally nice panels and a LOT longer battery life, which is crucial for an ultraportable. Given the similar price, I would not recommend the regular XPS. Instead, I use a HP Z-line workstation, which is 14 inch, comes with 3 year warranty and a customer service which replies and takes care immediately for anything and it is located in US, and the 12th generation is memory and SSD upgradable. Actually, even the GPU is upgradable, there is a open PCI slot. Most importantly, it is 14 inch 1440p screen, MUCH faster H series CPU and also important it have SD card and 4 USB connectors (Thunderbird). I bought it for ~700 on sale. It weights almost the same and dimensions are slightly larger for the 14" screen. The regular XPS is not even close to a workstation. The XPS CPU fan is mediocre and problematic, it is going to be noisy and fail - Dell have not change it since 8 years ago. I am a big Dell fan, but the current generation regular XPS is simply worthless. The Plus model is really great, but never on sale and much more expensive - at that point I would just pay for a Dell workstation which carries the XPS chassis but better warranty and functionality. Again, for a professional level machine I would look for replaceable RAM and SSD, or will buy Apple because of the battery longevity and eventually AppleCare and resale value.
Edit: to add - XPS runs hot, it throttles and in general it is slow to extend of driving me crazy. Just really NO WAY I would buy that thing again. If you want, I can sell you mine Smilie, I have no use of it.
