How is this a deal? Literally always $6 at Sam's club and $7 at Costco.
Does Sam's also deliver?

No. I've never seen this for anything close to $39.

Crystals and pellet-based water softener salts are two common forms of salt used in water softening systems. While both types serve the same purpose of removing minerals that cause hardness from water, there are some differences between them.

1. Composition: Crystals are formed through natural evaporation processes and are usually composed of larger, irregularly shaped grains. Pellet-based salts, on the other hand, are made by compacting salt crystals into small, uniform pellets.

2. Dissolution Rate: Pellet-based salts generally dissolve more slowly than crystals. This slower dissolution rate allows for a more consistent release of salt into the water softener, reducing the frequency of salt refilling. Crystals, on the other hand, tend to dissolve more quickly.

3. Bridging and Clumping: Pellet-based salts are less prone to bridging and clumping, which can occur when the salt forms a solid mass that restricts water flow in the softener tank. The uniform shape of pellets minimizes the chances of them sticking together. Crystals, due to their irregular shape, may be more susceptible to clumping and bridging.

4. Storage and Handling: Pellet-based salts are often considered easier to handle and store compared to crystals. The compact shape of pellets allows for better pouring and reduces the likelihood of spills. Crystals, with their larger grain size, can be messier to handle and may require more careful pouring.

5. Water Softener Compatibility: Both crystal and pellet-based salts are generally compatible with most water softener systems. However, it is important to consult your water softener's manual or manufacturer to determine the recommended salt type for optimal performance and to avoid any potential issues.

In terms of which is better, it largely depends on your specific needs and preferences. Pellet-based salts are often favored for their slower dissolution rate, reduced clumping, and ease of handling. If you have a high-demand household or prefer less frequent salt refilling, pellets may be a better choice. However, crystals can still be effective and may be more readily available or cost-effective in certain regions. It's recommended to consider factors such as price, availability, and your water softener's requirements when making a decision.
thank you

Was asking myself the same thing since Costco bags are 50 lbs vs these 40 lbs.

Anyone used this stuff to make the homemade weed killer? (1 gallon of 5% vinegar + 1 cup salt + 1 tablespoon dishwashing detergent (like Dawn).)

I don't see much point in paying for food grade salt to kill weeds.
