Your take away from this video from FOMO is odd as hell. It is getting nothing but mostly praise and you had the exact opposite reaction? Weird take but okay. And the keyword is you are watching a monitor that is being livestreamed over the internet, you are not going to see what they see, that is why people watch. To hear what they have to say opinion wise while getting a tease of the actual tv's.
I've got the 65" and I really like the TV. Upscaling is better than what I was expecting, since I watch a shit load of SD/shitty cable content. I'm coming from a 60" KS8000, so I'm not the best example/comparison. That, and I haven't tried any DV/HDR content yet. I had ordered a C2, but was worried about brightness because the room the TV is in gets really bright. This TV obviously doesn't have any issues with brightness. Watching Gunsmoke a few minutes ago and the brightness was only at 29 lol. Clint Eastwood movie now (in color instead of black and white like Gunsmoke) and it's at 26.

At these prices, I'd give it a shot and see if the issues are tolerable. But you could probably wait and see if the DV/HDR10 issues are fixed/made better, and this price will probably be back a few more times over the next few months. And like others have said, keep an eye on the thread over at AVS!
1) Google TV is great.
2) Ignoring #1, you could buy a Roku stick for like $25 and be right back to using that if needed. The platform the TV is running on is rarely a reason to buy it or not, especially not at the high end.

Absolutely, this is brand new.

TVs are released in the summer, & the prices are usually best about a year later (or more) when the following year's model is released. Unless you want brand new tech, it's best to buy once the TVs is replaced by another model (but there is still stock of the previous model to sell).

OK I'm asking because I see that for Hisense, you get the best price 2 months after release, and they never get cheaper after that. So if that's the case for TCL too then no need to wait.

Not true actually. The 65" U8G (2021 Hisense) went down to $650-700 in late summer 2022 before the stock was fully depleted. It was still $1000 in January of 2022.

This unboxing has given me pause until some real testing comes through. That blooming is
nasty, and an hoping it's because local dimming isn't turned on yet.

Almost 3x the dimming zones I think on the 65. Inky blacks etc. Google TV rather than Roku. More like a 2-3 gen leap than a little better. well, pending real reviews
Um, google operating systems are horrid/wonky/slow. TCL needs to offer this TV in the Roku variety.

It's probably the same as the Hisense I had. Local dimming isn't enabled on the initial screen with the TCL logo, it is enabled during the the time while the Google logo is displayed.

After that, you have to ask if LD is set to high or not by default & if the backlight is set to 100 in SDR. At least on my Hisense with 500 zones, you couldn't have the backlight above 65 in SDR (unless you're willing to accept some blooming).

This model has double the dimming zones though, so I'd expect better blooming control in SDR with a higher backlight setting.

I'm considering getting this TV, just watched this. I I had a bad experience with OLED. Granted it's an LG from 2016 and I know they are supposed to be improved but it had massive burn in after the warranty expired but after several messages LG agreed to replace the panel so that was good. The TV will be on pretty much all day so I don't think OLED is for us.

Please don't watch or take anything Quantum TV says seriously. He's the last "source" or "review" anyone should watch when it comes to deciding on a new TV

His reviews have always been straight garbage. Don't know if he still sells his "settings" but they make your TV look the absolute worst.

And that's all before we even get to his crazy personal life!

I used to watch his reviews, but he always praised Samsung for everything. Bashed Sony like there's no tomorrow.

Can you get local TV channels with this TV? Does it have a tuner?

The low supply of u8h was hisenses decision to reduce production because like lots of corporations at the time were anticipating a recession. Here we are today with the new model just around the corner and the u8h can still sell just fine at this price point and past the fear of recession.
