I liked when they had the CM1100 for $50, somehow this does not seem like a big deal.

I ended up ordering simply b/c mine is antiquated and ComCrap/Xfinity has done some upgrade that flakes my internet for 30-60 secs every 30mins or so. (old is DOCSIS 2.x) The CM1100 seems to have an extra ethernet port....nicer, but can't hold out since whatever they did is affecting my work calls. Thanks Comcrap

What the extra Ethernet port? This modem only has one. The Arris version has two ports.

OK. I see you meant "CM1100". May I ask, what can I do with two ports? Connect one port directly to a computer? And one to a router? Or two routers?

It's for something called link aggregation. The CM1100 supports higher than 1Gbps speeds but since the ethernet ports are only 1Gbps capable, you have to link them together to get up to 2Gbps.

Kind of a patch solution until they started making modems with faster ethernet ports (2.5Gbps+). I don't think many people use it since it requires a router that supports it and you see a lot of people complain that it can be buggy (periodic modem reboots). Maybe newer firmware fixed all that. I know people have said they can max out their 1.2Gbps plans by getting up to 1.2Gbps + 20% overprovision = 1.44Gbps using the CM1100 which is something you can't get with the CM1000.

So at least with Xfinity, it's not for being being to hook up two different devices since you can't acquire two different IPs. Although I'm not sure if that would even work if you could get two different IPs.

So, looks like this modem is flaky (per comcast tech). I have 1.1GBps to the house and all the ay to the modem... current plan is up to 75mpbs and every 30-45 mins it flakes for a few minutes and has DL speeds < 5Mpbs down and 1Mbps up. Tech confirmed he was seeing errors on their network. So, I guess refurb got me on this one..... And I can confirm it get those (low) speeds many times a day and affects my video calls. Not good.
