if you're going to spend that much, you might as well go for the banana republic factory pima cotton shirts. they are also heavy weight, but also the most luxurious feeling shirts i've ever bought. once you go pima, you'll never get the cheap stuff again.

All seriousness, do you do something extra harsh to them during use or washing?

These shirts aren't as good as they used to be years ago, softness and fit have especially changed and probably durability too. But I've got a few different "generations" of these that have lasted years. 2 washes seems extreme, there must be something specific happening to them.
