- 4.7★ out of 47 reviews vs 4.35★ out of 11 reviews. That said, what appears to be the same or similar unit on Amazon [amazon.com] has many reviews as well, and the average ratings are less favorable:
- 4.25★ out of 87 reviews and ratings
- 4.03★ out of 35 reviews (I hate the new non-reviewed rating system)
- 3.65★ out of 23 reviews from verified purchasers (important data point to some)
- The slightly cheaper one shares a product page with an 8,000 BTU unit that looks almost identical... and the product specs of each are all jumbled. Much of the 8000 info is under the 10000 and vice versa, and some is repeated on both even when it doesn't make sense for one or the other unit. This makes me worried that there would be an increased likelihood of them shipping the wrong unit.
All in all, there is risk involved. I've never shopped from Costway myself, but there are enough SD posts with products sold from their website that I'm not worried about getting scammed (plus, major retailers carry their products as well, including Home Depot). However, when buying a budget machine of any kind, the more complex the unit, the more problematic it is if something goes wrong. I can repair a malfunctioning cheap clothes drier; I'm not sure I could do the same for a malfunctioning cheap A/C unit, which means I would need to return or exchange with Costway directly. As far as exchanges go, their return policy [costway.com] states that the first exchange gets a free return shipping label, but any subsequent return shipping must be paid by the buyer. That said, the example it gives is wanting a different color, which is... odd.
For straight up returns, they say that if a product is "unsuitable" you can return it and they will pay return shipping, but it also says that the product must be unopened and brand new. So... define unsuitable? Unless I overlooked something, they seem to have virtually no provision for defective merchandise. Doesn't mean they wouldn't take care of a customer, but I'm always worried by companies that seem to avoid admitting that "sometimes our stuff breaks."
There is also this worrisome caveat in the return policy:
Some items cannot be returned:
* Special Priced Items
* Flash Deals
Do these A/C units qualify? No idea.
Personally, I think I may have talked myself out of this deal and will go back to looking for a unit on Amazon. At least there I know that if I get a lemon, I can return it with ease.

I too read their sketchy return policy, seemed like it was sent through google translate. Only problem with amazon is that I have returned a good bit of things already and I feel that one day they will just cut me off. No idea if that's a thing but I gamble on their cheap knockoff products very often and send them back if they aren't what they claim to be.
