You shouldn't force tax payers to subside any cars. Period.

Agreed, I don't like how billions of tax dollars go to oil drilling either. I'm not sure why I pay a dollar of that considering I haven't used a single ounce of gasoline this year. That cost should be shouldered entirely by the engine burning the gas or the cost of the gasoline itself from the pump

Then in 10 years tax payers are going to be paying for carbon sequestration because our crops will be wiped out by the radiative forcing properties of carbon dioxide Frown

Agreed, lower taxes, less regulation, more freedom. It's a good thing.

Come back in 10 years and revisit your comment, they have been saying we are on the brink of environmental collapse since the 70s, yet here we are. We put out a a fraction of what all other countries are doing in terms of "pollution" By all means, don't use gas, but don't force me to give up my ICE as a convinence to appease your mind.

I mean, you can't actually.

The top of the line ICE version is the XSE V6 which has a base price of $36,745 and no tax credit. So even if you stop there the Model 3 discussed here is over $6000 cheaper with the tax credit.

If you mean TOP of the line Camry as in with all options included, the price balloons to $42,194. And still no tax credit.

The Model 3 this deal is about is under $30,000 after tax credit.

Your Camry is over 25% more expensive. Plus it's still a Camry- the merlot of sedans.

FWIW the federal tax credit isn't forcing anybody to subsidize anything.

A non-refundable tax credit simply means you get to keep more of your own money

Only REFUNDABLE credits ever give you someone ELSES money.

Good luck getting rid of oil and gas subsidies. One party will never allow it. We can't even get rid of the broken ethanol mandate which is a gigantic subsidy for farmers. Causes all sorts of waste due to poor usage of farmland for something we don't need.

As covered before, sometimes a double edged sword. I rather have no state income tax in CA, looking at close to $14,000 in state income tax for 2023. In texas that would be $0. the $2000 CVRP that i will get from a lower income year doesnt begin to cover how much i pay this place in state income.
but then you'd have to live in TX...

I just rented one of these for a month from Hertz. 2023 model with only 6k miles when I got it. I've rented about a dozen different tesla models on Turo over the years, so these are in comparison to those experiences, not to ICE cars.

Issues:
- Phantom (or overly-conservative) braking on autosteer is really awful and happens often enough to discourage use. Tesla simply removed radar too early… vision is not capable or mature enough yet.
- Wipers (which are forced to auto setting when using autosteer) activate randomly in broad daylight even though the windshield and cameras are completely clean. Also happens frequently enough to discourage using autosteer.
- The removal of ultrasonic parking sensors was also premature. The vision system is buggy, takes too long to activate, and simply feels like a gimmicky, less premium solution.
- There is an obvious spacer where the lumbar adjustment used to be in the passenger seat. Feels cheap (but at $30k, maybe par for the course). At least the seats are comfy enough otherwise.

Good stuff:
- Motorized trunk is nice
- Still plenty quick even though this is the "slowest" Tesla
- Build quality has improved a little over the years, but still a few noticeable issues
- Has features other cars in the $30k price range don't, like heated steering wheel/rear seats, 4 usb-c ports, all the tech (dashcam, sentry, nav, games, amazing app, etc.)
- LFP batteries seem to be a slight advantage, since you never need to worry about capping SOC. Starting every day on 100% is just a nice feeling. Range did dip on colder days but not massively more than NCA-equipped cars. We'll see how degradation turns out with these, but in terms of charge cycles they are supposed to hold up very well (and of course less prone to catastrophic failure, for those who care).
- Efficient enough that most people could cover their commute with the 120V wall adapter overnight.
- Supercharger network has grown substantially better over the years. Range anxiety is simply not a thing with Teslas anymore. The PlugShare app is still essential for finding free spots, and in case of emergencies. If I owned, I would carry the adapter to plug in at RV outlets when traveling just in case, but I'm a bit of a prepper like that.

Overall, a few vision/autosteer nuisances currently keep me from buying one myself, but still… those issues will hopefully be fixed in software eventually, and this is probably the best car for the money right now, if you can take advantage of the tax credit(s).

The ice vs electric conversation is polarizing... To each his own is the American way, and should allow for discussion and debate without being nasty or childish. In the end, gov't will find a way to increase taxes for drivers... If EV someday becomes mandatory and they lose the gas and oil taxes, be comforted the usurious mileage tax will reap greater rewards.

The 250 rez fee goes toward the purchase. Yes, would highly recommend home charger. Car comes with wall/adaptor. Doc fee is common. Man hater comment got top spot.

... what?

Why would you need to buy BOTH a wall charger and a mobile charger? Personally I've only ever bought the mobile-- it's cheaper, and it does largely the same job while being infinitely portable and offering adapters to a wide array of plug types.
Exactly, and I just made an adapter to connect to my dryer plug and limit current to 25A.

I will say that Ford's recent shenanigans (they raised the annual subscription for their handsfree L2 FSD competitor from $200/yr to $800/yr Confused) have prevented me from recommending the car to friends and family where I was much more vocal before.
Ford has got a lot larger problems with their cars as it seems a lot more of them are catching on fire.

Dont forget to check insurance. I was shopping to swap my commuter to model 3 but found out insurance is $200 for just model 3 alone(right now Im paying $120 for lexus and bmw M3).
Tesla also offers insurance directly
Quote from MeatballsJones :
M3 in a Tesla thread almost always means model 3 unless stated otherwise.
Possibly, but who uses M3? Just call it "3", why do people need all these stupid crutch letters and syllables. Plus the reference above got people going down the wrong M3 path.

Model Y fits 99% of americans. Not sure how a vehicle having a truck bed would determine how well you fit in a drivers seat.
I agree with you about the seat sizing...but often complain about the bolsters of our Model X. I had family just move from a Mazda CX5 (?) to Toyota Highlander just because they thought the driver seat was bigger in the Toyota.

Not saying they are right, but also not surprised by the sentiment
