Decent price for a great AC shipped, however Costco in store has the 12k BTU for the same price... https://slickdeals.net/f/16656068-costco-members-midea-u-shaped-12k-btu-window-air-conditioner-339-99?page=1#commentsHeader

Depends on your needs.

Don't just buy the biggest. Buy what you need.

I have the 8000 in my master and it's the bee's knees.

Nonsense - the Midea can step down in power even if you don't need the extra BTU coverage. There's absolutely no reason not to get the 12k at the same price if you have Costco membership.

Don't just buy what you need now - think of the future, when you might be glad you had the more capable unit.

The external fan and compressor are a little smaller on the 8k unit, so it should be slightly more quiet.

But the difference won't be much, assuming both units are properly installed.

I got the costco 12k recently, it's damn quiet.

I have the 12000 and the 8000. The fan noise on the 8000 is SIGNIFICANTLY quieter. Not noisy at all, but very noticeable.

Just an anecdotal N=1, but mine decided to just stop working for no discernible reason. Some kind of fan error. They did give me a refund though without too much trouble, so there's that.

I got one too, does yours makes a few louder "pop" sounds every time the compressor turns on or off? It wakes me up it's so loud.

If you can record the pop sound on your unit, so I know what to look for. Because, I can hear my unit spin up that has something like a soft pop/clicking, but it's more of a shaking because of the rapid inertial forces on the exterior fan.

I recently bought 2 12000 BTU units from Costco and have some comments on them.

Pros
1 Extremely quiet
2 Blasts as much coolness as you want
3 Cools a large area and quickly

Cons
1. Install was more time consuming than expected. Difficult but not impossible. Not as easy to install as my old unit.
2. The inside blower sticks out into the room almost 9 inches
3. Since my shade stops on top of the ac I have light entering on both sides of the unit. Easily fixed by cutting a piece of cardboard to fill in the spaces (but unattractive)

Overall I'd recommend this ac unit and the price on Costco is excellent

Showing $399 - $60 coupon for me. I still bit at that price to replace a slightly older standard 8000 BTU unit.

Update: Now down to $379.

I bought the 12k BTU for my 11x11 room last year. Ended up returning it because it would cycle on/off constantly just like any regular AC. Very annoying.

Despite this being same price as the 12k, I'll give it a try since some of you are saying it's significantly quieter - and it may just do a better job than the 12k one considering it's the right size for the room. Heck, maybe I got a defective unit last time.

Amazon has been bouncing the price up and down every 12 hours or so from $399 to $379. If it shows up $399 in your cart, just wait a few hours and try again. The $60 coupon works either way.

Seems to be a higher than normal return rate on this brand from what I read on Reddit.
