Other than the brand name, minisforum npb7 is better, no?
Lenovo is in a completely different league to Minisforum. There are a ton of reported problems with MF machines, coupled with a hell of a time getting support. IMO the Lenovo is worth the premium.

Well everyone experience is different. I have a minisforum nbp7 and I have not had any problems at all. It is way better than this due to having double the ram which is ddr5, 2 USB ports in the front; 2 HDMI ports for dual monitors. I don't care about HDMI 2.1 not a gamer. plus Lenovo has a 1.3/5 rating for relaibility on consumer affairs.

this is better on performance but totally depends on use case

Depends on use case. You can edit 8K ProRes videos on Mac Mini while this won't because there's not a good GPU.

Plenty of native M2 apps for image editing/video editing that take advantage of hardware. Not quite for Windows though.

This is a good Plex server for instance.

Right information for the CPU is 14 cores / 20 threads, which is pretty good for multithread workload. Good deal

Would have been sweet if it was USB-C powered.
USB-C portable monitor, BT kb+mouse and usb-c powered mini-pc == ultimate portable mini PC.

When was the last time you went to Consumer Affairs to post a positive review? That's not why people post there. Minisforum is a small-time Chinese company with virtually zero post-sales support. If you buy a PC from them, chances are it will work fine, but you have about a 7% chance (guestimate, going by Amazon reviews for Chinese mini pcs) it will die in the first year and that's when the tears start to flow. Even if Lenovo had this failure rate, you will get service... and in the USA too. Also...

Your ports argument doesn't hold water. The Lenovo has HDMI and DP, and a cheap adapter allows you to use 2 HDMI displays on the DP port. The Lenovo also has two USB's at the front, 1 USB A Gen 3.2 and one USB C Gen 3.2.

I'm not a big Lenovo fan; I actually bought a Beelink SER6 recently. Had I seen this deal first though, I would have seriously considered it instead. I too am not a gamer so I only need basic graphics, and that i7 has a lot of punch. The fact that it has DDR4 is good IMO since switching to 32GB would cheap ($56), and 64GB is only $110.

Your arguments hold no merit in my opinion. A cheap adapter is needed? Great another cost to add. Switching to 32gb ($56) is another cost unlike minisforum which already comes with 32gb ddr5. So these 2 additions you mentioned already adding $56 + adapter cost. That is not a good deal. DP is useless when minisforum already comes with 2 built -in HDMI ports that can do 4k@60hz.

Second, the minisforum has 2 USB-A ports in front and 1 USB-C for a total of 3. The Lenovo has ONLY 1 USB-C and 1 USB-A in front for a total of 2. The minisforum still has 1 additional port in front which was my point.

Third, anything can break at anytime. Lenovo is not particularly known for their reliability which was my whole point. Looking at amazon reviews for minisforum pcs vs lenovo pcs does not reveal a significant gap or favorability for one or another. Their reviews if averaged are extremely close, which is even more impressive for the small-time company that is minisforum.

Ended up going with the Ideacentre 3i Costco deal with the i5-13400 and picked up a Crucial 2x16gb kit. Total is $607 + 15 S&H. I think this setup will be better adjusted to my work needs and saves some money.

Lenovo isn't "known for reliability", but Minisforum does have a Rep for being overly unreliable... And you also can't get support domestic support. You pay extra for that. Minisforum is cheaper per spec, and that's great. It doesn't mean that the rest of the package a Lenovo/major supplier has no value. Some people will assign more value to availability of support. Some less.

I mean "Brand name" isn't just brand name, usually. Lenovo and other big multinationals have a domestic corporate presence and support. Those things have value that bundles into the price. Whether you assign *value* to those "features" is your own business. For me I wouldn't pay into this price range for Minisforum at all. Thats for little media centre or nonessential basic computing. If I'm paying this much it's because it's more important work and I'm not leaving that to a company w no domestic presence/support st all. I'm buying name brand or building myself.
