Maldives are on my list of anniversary destinations for DW ... 2 years to plan. Only issue is the flight there is a little brutal... 20 hours minimum. Prices aren't that bad if you can stomach economy for that many hours... $500 per person. Bump it up to first class and you're paying $8k per person minimum.

No hurricanes in the Maldives but no typhoons either because they are the same weather phenomenon. Depending on where they were spawned geographically they are called differently.

Take it from someone who has done both. The Maldives are beautiful and magical, but so are many places in the Caribbean. Your dollar goes much further in the Caribbean. Flights are cheaper and not a day or more away if you live in the western hemisphere. Your options are quite limited all around in the Maldives because of the geography, but even at an all inclusive in the Caribbean, you can rent a car and leave for the day.

Things to consider, that's all 🙂

Caribbean, (very) bad weather is a real possibility. Are there any resorts similar to Maldives, with huts on the water?

yes as you're booking the flights you can either choose the option to be auto selected based on the available seats and how quickly you can check into your flight which selects seats for you. If you check in fast enough, you can get the expensive comfort plus seats for free. But if you're like me and you have extra steps cause of immigration or passports or whatever, you can buy yourself a guaranteed comfort plus seats for extra per plane. So once to Doha, Then to Male. Then Male back to Doha and Doha back to US. 4 flights 4 upgraded seats. it's expensive but i'd rather be a tuna can on the way down and relaxed on the way back. I only paid for guaranteed extra seats on the way back. I paid for the front seats with no one in front of you with the window aisle. Trouble is you also get stuck with the kids in the middle front who get that row automatically for babies.

Yes I agree. I have now booked a trip to Punta Cana. I heard from a couple in Maldives last time I went that all Luxury resorts are the same and once you're in an all inclusive and stuck in a resort, they all offer the same ammenities and excursions. Water is just a pretty and food is basically the major difference. Everything is cheaper though in the Caribbean versus Maldives.

best times to go to avoid monsoon season and rainy/cloudy weather is to go between February and April. March is the prime time. I went in December and it was partially wet with small showers here and there. Don't like that humid feeling when the sun comes back out and dries off all the water. also brings in lots of bugs with that humid feeling.

Both my boyfriend and I have this on an Amex card. Do you know if you can split payment on Luxury Escapes?

Edit: Nm just read online can't split multiple cc. But can split gift card and one cc so maybe that would work to purchase a GC with one of the credit cards.
