Dang, great deal. Was looking last week, and they were $1500+ at the minimum. Also can do one way for $493.

Long layover for some dates, unfortunately.

Beijing is great to visit. Same level convenience with NYC and LA. You dont need a rental car at all. Lots of historical stuff. Don't forget to visit Tiananmen Square too. Remarkable experience.

It's safer than traveling to Los Angeles.

Pretty safe to travel in Beijing. Just stay away from politics I guess. The public transportation was top notch.

Completely and utterly safe. Perhaps safest city of the size anywhere. Traveling thru Riyadh otoh, is not going to be fun, but interesting if that's your cup of tea.

Unless you NEED to travel to china now, just wait until 2024 and it will be much easier.

There is a US embassy in Beijing as far as I remember. They provide citizen services for many US citizens over there. I guess they are not "detained " in China

So many weird questions like this, I guess the propaganda machine really works out here.

China is pretty much a first world country, at least in all the major cities. Laws are enforced, public safety is all-encompassing, and people are (mostly) civilized by Western standards besides maybe some cultural differences. You're probably safer out there (even as a tourist) than you would be in most US cities. Traffic is still pretty nuts in the way that pedestrians yield to cars and scooters, but honestly it makes more sense that way since pedestrians take that entitlement way too far out here.

There are hundreds of thousands of foreigners visiting or living in China at any given time, you will not get detained for being a certain citizen unless you break the law. You won't get detained for existing on Chinese soil
