I bit. This is a deal at this price! These guitars are great, especially at this price. Last time the sunburst was on sale I tried three times to get one that was new and not damaged. Each did not come in the original box and had dings or chips in the finish. One had the headstock split during shipping. All were floor models I guess. This price is even better than what I purchased last, so I will take a chance!

The Open Box link is down in the listing, but my order says that is New.

The price comes down when you log in as a member.

I ordered three different "on sale" guitars from them recently and they were all floor models or open box. Had to return all three.

The last time I ordered one from Musician's Friend a manager called me from Guitar Center the next day letting me know that they had one on the floor that was in mint condition and that they would throw in some strings and an additional 10% discount since it was not new in box. That one showed up with a split headstock and they had not given me the additional discount. At least the return policy is easy. We will see how this one works out.

I would go for the Mitchell in my opinion. You get a lot of premium options with this: Locking tuners, a nicer top, and pickups that are splittable (I actually like the sound of these pickups). I have heard some get these in and they are set up well out of the box. I have had three come in I had to return for damage and all were set up well with only the frets being a little scratchy. If one of these is set up and the frets are polished you would have a solid guitar. If I remember correctly that is close to a normal price for the Epiphone while the Mitchell is usually $400 and has features closer to something in the $600-$800 range.

Just ordered one through GC here in Colorado and got an email from an Amarillo store saying they have one 'with full mfg warranty' but 'not with original packaging'....meaning it's a store demo. My choices were to proceed with the used one (they called it 'new' for some bizarre reason) or wait for shipping on a new one. I chose to wait for shipping, but am now seriously considering cancelling the order--are they gonna now DELAY the guitar? I need it by Friday, so that gives them more than enough time, but guess we'll see.
VERY disappointed with Guitar Center. Sure, it's a sale item, but that doesn't mean you offer someone a fricking VERY used unit at new prices. In fact, pretty sure that's considered fraud.

Sounds like bait and switch when it comes to guitar center and getting rid of used stuff. At least now their giving heads up of their tactics. I've ordered stuff from them before and they've had the nerve to send used/open box without notification. Weak.
