That's because it doesn't have sls which irritates people's mouths like mine and causes canker sores

The reason Sensodyne is so highly rated is because those ratings started outside of the US. The US Sensodyne is still good tooth paste but it doesn't compare to the formula the rest of the world uses. You should import this toothpaste from anywhere else, or just bring some back when you travel. I usually get Canadian, British, or Indian imports. Sometimes Vietnam, Italy, etc. Be aware they sell in smaller containers 70g to 100g. The box HAS to say "powered by NOVAMIN"

It's much better. It'll take about 5 days before you notice how much better it is.

Amazon and eBay are where I mostly look. Last stock I got six 70g tubes for $27 but best I see today this moment is four 70g for $35.

Just an anecdote I guess, but I used to use non-sensitive toothpaste and had cold tooth sensitivity. Switched to sensitive type tooth paste and never looked back. Could be all in my head but don't care, seemed to work for me.

I did once read that sensitive type toothpastes remineralize better than the regular toothpastes, but never looked into it.

This is one of the stranger toothpastes out there. Not that it's an indicator for cleanliness but it doesn't foam up at all.

Pronamel is good but I don't like this particular one, which doesn't have whitening

SLS is the foaming / detergent ingredient, which many brands no longer use because it exacerbates sensitivity and sores. I prefer no SLS because it irritates my skin, even though it is safe if you're not sensitive.

does anyone actually feel like sensodyne works or is it just marketing hype?

Whitening uses an abrasive iirc

Whitening isn't great for sensitive teeth in the first place. The reason why Sensodyne Pronamel is better than others for sensitive teeth is that they actually use a low abrasivity formula. The whitening Sensodyne hurts my teeth and other brand sensitive toothpastes don't seem to reduce sensitivity as well most likely due to higher abrasivity.
