I never said to change at a specific interval, I said defer to the manual and to actual engineers who built the car. If the car says to change it when the indicator says so, then do so.
Why is it so contentious to say "Follow the manual"? I see a bunch of old people set in their ways, covering their ears saying "NAH! I KNOW BETTER".
Manual says every 10k? Sure. Manual says follow the on board indicator? Sure. Anything else?

We've only used full synthetic in our vehicles, with high grade filters, and regular change intervals. In the last 20 years we've NEVER had a single major engine mechanical malfunction. Modern full synthetic oils are works of art. Modern engines are, with some exceptions, also fantastic when properly maintained.
* Changing your own oil is not difficult, and doesn't take long. You also know for sure what oil you're getting, what filter you're getting, that the filter and drain plug were properly installed, and that you saved a large sum of money in the process. You can also change it whenever is convenient for you, not when a shop is open and not busy. All you need is a set of ramps, and/or a jack and jack stands, a combination wrench for the drain plug and a hammer, an oil filter wrench, funnel, and an oil drain pan. Maybe $75 in tools to save nearly that much on the first self change (assuming high grade full synthetic and a high grade filter). A heavy dose of common sense is also highly recommended.
