Good price. Not a great drive.
Google or look up 980 vs 980 pro to see the major difference in the line.
And then you can check 980 vs competing lines.

let's put it on this way

at this price <$45, which drive is better than 980?

I mean at this price you expect most to be "not a great drive". But yeah this is the "entry level" SSD from Samsung for this line hence it's being priced like all the other sub $50 1TB sticks that seem to be popping out now. If you want the pro it's about $15 more right now, which while yeah is 33% more expensive, it's still just $15 if dram, faster speeds, longevity means much to you... for me... I think I would but then again I still have a 7 year old 850 EVO that only has 44 TB written to it, so about 1/3 through it's advertised life span so maybe it isn't that important.

It's a good price. I did mention that but what I was getting at is that it's not a good drive and in a weird spot. If you want something cheap, you got teamgroup, msi, SP and WD blue/green. They are cheaper and not much real difference for everyday user.
For people who needs fast, you got 980 pro (recently price dropped to $60) or wd black sn850x.
So when someone choose this it's like they chose a cheaper drive but not the cheapest but also wanted a quicker drive but not that that quick.
So I would think they should either just get the cheapest or just get the next major line up.

It'll perform great granted you have USB 3.X. I have a nvme enclosure I use to clone other nvme's, and can get essentially full nvme speed via USB 3 C-to-C

Just did similar, but with 970 evo plus. This will be good use case for that purpose.

Most affordable enclosures (20$) top out at 10 gbps, well below the max speed of this or any other nvme drives (can do 3x). Still, 10 gbps is much better than almost all flash drives you can get.

The usb 4 enclosure can do 40 gbps, but are much bb more expensive.

You should consider getting the Pro version if you have thoughts about using the drive in PC or PS5 later. It's only 15 more and much more future proof.

What enclosure would you recommend? There are so many on Amazon but I don't know which ones are flooded with fake reviews. Also, do you recommend adding silicone heatsink pads?

Oh sorry. It was $46 which is pretty close and it's much better than this drive.

This is a solid drive at a great price. It is TLC (not QLC) and has the same endurance (600 TBW) as the Pro model. It's not as fast as the Pro (and it does not have DRAM) but for $45 it's hard to beat.

I recently purchased this 20gbps case for $25 after coupon. I put a 2 terabyte 980 pro in it and it is fast.

I also bought an Orico 10gbps case for $11.39 through Slickdeals but it is back to $17. Haven't tried it yet.

A few bucks more for the faster case for the 980 pro seemed worthwhile.

Most NVMe drives top out about 7,000 MB/s (Samsung 980 Pro). That's Megabytes, not Gigabytes. 10 Gbps (gigabytes) is much faster than that.

Gbps is gigabit not gigabyte, and 10 Gbps is 1250MB/s.
