I have this thermostat and I love it for a lot of reasons.
1. It has detailed dev settings you can access and really fine tune it. You can set the time between runs so it doesn't immediately kick the AC unit back on if it just shut off. You can set the fan run time after the AC unit shuts off so it keeps circulating cool air for a minute or two. Many features you can't find on any thermostat at all, let alone one in this price range.
2. Setting multiple schedules
3. It looks really nice on the wall and was easy to install.

The cons are really the app and that it disconnects from wifi frequently. The android app works but hasn't been updated in a really long time. Could definitely use an overhaul.
The device randomly disconnects from WiFi but almost always reconnects itself. Sometimes you can't connect on the app to the thermostat because it is disconnected from WiFi

I'd say this is a good deal. about $40 less than I paid a while back.

Does it require internet/cloud connection to work? Or does it stay local if you're on the same SSID on the phone/thermostat?

If I understand what you're asking, yes, the device will still work locally using the touch screen whether or not it is connected to Wi-Fi. What I have trouble with is using the app on my phone when the device is disconnected from Wi-Fi, even if my phone is on the same SSID

I've purchased two of these since I have two zones in my house, this was around 4 years ago, got them both for around $240 from home depot. They have 5 year warranty. They have been working great so far, I agree with all the cons mentioned by another user here, however I still love these, I mainly needed one so I can control remotely and this one does it well.

What they are asking is if the internet is down, then does the app still work to connect to the thermostat via LAN connection. The wifi can still be up but no internet connection. The thermostat clearly won't work remotely if it completely disconnects from wifi.

Yes, this is what I mean, can you use the App locally without internet?

I see now.

It appears not. I unplugged the Ethernet cable going into my router and tried. I wasn't able to log in to the device.

"C-WIRE REQUIRED: A C-wire (common wire) is required to power the unit. Two wire systems are not supported. The C-wire is used to provide power to the thermostat and is available on most HVAC systems today that have three or more wires. Third party aftermarket products exist for adding powering options in instances where a C-wire does not exist"

yes this is standard on all smart thermostats like this, the only exceptions being battery powered thermostats or the old school mercury switch type

Judging by the 1 star reviews on Amazon, this thing has a defective WiFi radio and bad software. Bosch has also seemingly abandoned it.

I guess some people like to gamble.

It says it will control either a humidifier or dehumidifier. So yes!

Do yourself a favor and spend an extra $40 and get the sensi from Amazon....I had issues with the Bosch and finally invested in the sensei with no regrets
