They are great if you plan to boondock for extended periods of time and have a power source for them (solar/battery). They are great if you need to keep things frozen.
They are OK for weekend camping trips (if you have power for them) and have a way to keep them out of the weather. They are a good backup if your regular fridge dies (I lended mine to my parents when this happened and also used it for when our fridge decided to stop cooling as well). Saved a bunch of food!
They are not good if you live in a hot climate and plan to leave it in an enclosed space to stay cool while parked somewhere. They are not good in the rain/weather (because the power supply and the fridge itself).
I have two (ICECO 95L DZ and 65DZ). They go on some trips but the coolers go with me more often.

If you are just looking for a good, cheap cooler the Igloo Marine series is a solid performer. I still have rotomolded coolers that I mostly use but on my boat the built in cooler is a igloo marine.
I agree this is not an apple to apples comparison but as an e cooler owner you don't need as big of one because you don't loose any space to ice
