This is a legit deal for this model. It's pretty bright in SDR with HDMI 2.1, probably a solid bet for gaming and sports. For movies, note that the TV is not mini-led and has quite a limited number of dimming zones for a TV of this size. This leads to a fair bit of blooming, despite Sony's top notch processing.

The Samsung QN90B has been almost this low via Samsung direct EDU/1st responders on and off if you can catch it in stock. That's a superior TV especially for a bright room or gaming. If you are a Dolby Vision truther or Sony loyalist though, this X90K deal might be the One.
My kids just surprised me with a TV for Father's Day, and they bought it on sale at Best Buy for $2000 with an additional 10% discount because it was an open-box item. (I was actually really happy with that discount $1800 down from $2400 MSRP)

For $1600, this is a killer deal!

I'm really loving this TV. I watched a helpful video that showed me how to connect my remote using Bluetooth, and it made a big difference! I've adjusted the TV settings to my liking.

The only thing that bothered me was that when I set up the picture settings in the main menu, they didn't carry over when I used streaming apps. It turns out you have to adjust the picture settings for each app separately while the app is running, like Plex or Netflix. I had no idea you could have different picture settings for each app, so it was frustrating that my settings weren't applying. It would have been nice to have an option to apply the settings to all apps and channels, but oh well. I thought I'd share this in case others come across the same issue.

Seems others share your sentiment, "As for dark room performance, the X90K performs better thanks to the local dimming feature. However it suffers from blooming. Because of the direct lit frame dimming of the X85, it has no blooming issues at all."
I am super happy with x85k blackness performance. Superised to see x90k is doing worse, it seems overall rating x85k is also slightly higher than x90k.

Does anyone know how Woot ships a TV of this size? Does someone contact you to confirm someone will be there to accept delivery (can I assume they wouldn't just leave it in the driveway?). Is there flexibility with the carrier in putting delivery off a day or two?
You'll get OK/acceptable shipping but not the kind of service that you would get from upper-level electronic merchants.
Years ago,, WOOT had an issue with broken TVs

The size of this product makes it basically no returns because you must pay shipping.

The Best Buy/Amazon price will hit this eventually, it's only +400 at the moment, not as hot as you think.
Agreed, it is a deal, but definitely not a slick deal like a few top posts made it to be.

My question was more about how much (if any) flexibility I have in scheduling the delivery and ensuring I can be there when it is delivered.

How are the viewing angles on this model? I have a friend that wants a large TV. I told him to get a 77" OLED but he doesn't want to spend that much. I know black level has become very good on higher end LCD but viewing angles can still be terrible on some LCD tvs.

It came with the house. House is built in the Tuscan style that was popular in the early 2000's. My wife has a bunch of crap on it right now, I'm going to paint the walls (its the original light yellow paint), recaulk the crown molding, and get new drapes to match the new wall colors.

Here's a pic. It's much wider than the 85" tv, I just have to toss the shelves that sit on top of it.

Funny how inflation is the governments fault right? But all of a sudden Sony won't go bankrupt from discounting their TVs heavily.
What, exactly, is the point you think you are making? There is nothing "all of a sudden" (suddenly?) happening, every place discounts things near end of cycle without going bankrupt and this is from Woot, not Sony.
