But he's right! $1199 on Apple Edu store and also giving away $150 Apple Gift cards with purchase. I just bought mine that way and used $79.99 off my free gift card to pay my first year of AppleCare+ coverage. Excellent MacBook as well too, I'm really loving mine!

I just got this computer and I love it. The larger screen size and upgraded speakers make movies and shows more enjoyable. I got the 512GB version.

Good choice, 16GB ram would be so much nicer and I'm willing pay another $200 on top of the 512GB disk edition. Yet it's not an option.

Can you explain? If you put in a bogus .edu([email protected]) how do you get your order info? Or do you just put a non-edu email ([email protected]) and they don't check that it is a .edu?

It's an option through Apple.

Just go to Apple's regular website and scroll all the way to the bottom of the page. There you will find on the bottom right a section called "For Education" and under that you want to click on the link that says "Shop for College". (The bottom of the page is also where you will find the link to the "Certified Refurbished" store which also has many great deals on practically new and plaine boxed Apple products) That's it! You can sign in with your regular iCloud/Apple account and use your normal email address as well. This even works for pickup at an Apple Store, no ID check or .edu email required. When purchasing through the EDU store you will receive a discount of $50-200 off any Mac as well as $50-150 off any iPad and you will also be offered AppleCare+ @ 20% off if purchased w/ your EDU Mac.

Lastly, you will see your Mac discounted by the same amount as the free Back-to-school Gift Card that is included with your purchase. So for example, I purchased the base model 15" MacBook Air it rang up as $1049 + $150 Apple Gift Card = $1199 Normal EDU Pricing for this model. This is so that if you return the MacBook you would only be entitles to $1049 back as the Gift Card is nonrefundable if redeemed. (Although they can actually "un-redeem" an un-spent gift card go figure, as this was done when I returned the 14" MacBook Pro I purchased just before WWDC as I ended up keeping the Air instead).

You can also use your Apple Balance to pay on an EDU purchase if you like. I tend to upgrade every year or two so I used $79.99 of my free Apple Gift Card to pay for a year of AppleCare+. I buy the base model of everything as you take a bath on trade-in or re-sell value of your product when upgrading and I love new Apple products haha. You can always get a pro-rated refund of an annual or 2/3-year AppleCare+ plan if you do sell or trade-in to upgrade later as well. Enjoy!

Funny anecdote: I went to an Apple Store w/ my grandfather, who is a vocational teacher, and they were giving him a hard time w/ his School ID (They wanted a letter or paystub instead t verify?). I think I just got someone who is difficult lol, but anyhow just walked right over to one of the iMacs and placed an EDU order for in-store pickup, we went and had lunch, and then came back 2 hours later and picked up his MacBook Pro w/ EDU discount no verification needed and no problems lol.
