Kenmore just rebrand from other manufacturers. You have to look at the model number prefix to find out who's the actual maker. this one is made by Daewoo. tons of bad reviews on Amzn. I would avoid.

It's amazing that in the past 30 years we have managed to make fridges worse than we did 50 years ago.

Well… @?$&. I looked all over LG's site and only ever saw 1 year warranty for fridges so I called a local repair shop instead of LG. I'm surprised and little pissed the tech didn't mention it as I told him the fridge was only 4 years old. This happened a little over a month ago and we've already replaced the fridge. Hopefully someone else reads this comment before they replace their still-in-warranty LG.
yes, the fridge itself is 1 year warranty. but the compressor has 10 years. Always contact LG first.
You can try to call LG to see if they can reimburse you if you still have the receipt. Maybe they will do, you never know. Smilie

Doesn't matter how cheap something is. If it's bad product just don't do it.

What brands do you recommend then whirlpool? Ge?
As an Appliance tech we recommend nothing. Only advice is to buy simple, less points of failure and usually cheaper to repair unless compressor issue then it's usually best to buy a new one.

Also we recommend you stay away from LG and Samsung for all appliances. They have known design issues and parts are usually expensive.

Bad reviews but price is really good so might be worth the risk.

capitalist society, everything in electronics is gone bad in around 5 years now a days, to make more money, the parts are sold 40 to 60 percent of the original cost, so it's better to replace than repair, manufacturers don't want to repair.

It's strange to see Costco selling Kenmore. I always thought Kenmore was a Sears house brand.
Sears sold off everything it could, including all its in-house brand names, warranty and repair centers, home improvement business, etc. It's back out of bankruptcy, but only owns a handful of stores now.

A Kenmore Elite fridge came with our lake house vacation rental when we bought it 6 years ago. It is an LG fridge.

It has just hummed along with only one issue where the ice maker wouldn't dump into the bucket.

$134 and an hour later I replaced the whole unit and it has been just fine for 4 years.

My kids have LG washer and dryer going for 10 years now with no problems.

If you haven't checked it out, Yale Appliance in Boston has a great blog. They do a ton of repairs and rate most manufacturers based on their service calls.

How do you clean the coils?
You got to open the fridge to reach the internals?
From the front the lower cover should come off. Then from the back there should be an area you can take off in the bottom portion of the refrigerator. Depending on how the coils are made, it can be easy or a PITA. If they are flat you can use a lint cleaner to get the dust off.
I have a Whirlpool and they are shaped in a W pattern so you can't get anything in there. I use a low pressure battery powered lawn air blower and force air through it.

There are a ton of YT videos out there on each specific model and how to do it properly.

Thanks for your response.
I will check if mine is easy enough.

On a side note, I wonder if the manufacturer even makes it easy for diy nowadays as the common theme seems to be "fail and re buy"

Oh I actually love the fridge it's super quiet. The dual icemakers are fantastic. I bought it last week for $1000. Costco is phenomenal and so far this fridge is a 10 out of 10. I've had Samsungs lgs and a whirlpool, my Samsung was my most expensive, and my most hated( ice maker never worked and was very loud) if you can find it at this price it's a must buy!
Costco will de price Match if the price drops within next 90 days of purchase.. try to contact Costco

There should still be access from the rear to do this. I open the small lip in the front just to shoot the dust out when blowing air from the back, If you can't get the front one off the dust still can be removed, just that it'll blow in your face
