Please note that this is 980 instead of 980 Pro as stated. Thanks anyway ☺️

How did this hit front page when the info is incorrect? This is not the PRO version.

500gb seems like a waste of a slot. Higher capacity options are dropping in price.

The refurbished was sold for $20 on BestBuy couple weeks ago. It's a dram-less SSD.

FYI, this is pcie 3.0 version and not pcie 4.0 as mentioned in the post. Samsung has been sneaky here to have 980 with both flavors. OP, please correct it.

No deal because it is non pro. The price difference is huge. 980 doesn't even have DRAM. Better go with a 970 Evo+ than 980.

Second this. You can get 970 evo+ for $9 more.

Good price for us non-gamers that just want to increase the speed of an older system. I recently bought the WD SN770 500gb for $31. Faster, Gen 4, dramless also. The speed diff will not be noticed making the OP's deal legit.

Is this or the 970 EVO+ better for a boot drive?

I doubt there is much difference. But 970 has DRAM. For me, I will want the PRO version with SED. However, the SED on the boot drive is more complicated and probably won't work at all in older computers.

Here's a link to an Ars Technica review comparing the 980 to a 970 EVO:

If you're in the market for a new computer soon, or someone in your family, chances are they come with 500GB to 1TB nvme drives. Use that drive to improve an older system instead. Grab a 2TB for the new computer. These small drives are also good for a Linux OS, keeping it separate from the main Windows drive, if you are interested in learning Linux.
