I'd keep the 5600x for another generation and move to a new motherboard+DDR5 when you want to upgrade next.

Was hoping to see some good deals on prime day. I've got a 4090 so def bottlenecked

Same here with a 3600 Ryzen. I think trying to find a good deal, even ebay or open box somewhere on a 5950 is gonna be the best option. I've gone back and forth a lot on the bottleneck thresholds and upgrade price to go am5 or LGA. If the 5950 doesn't get much cheaper ill be able to build an i9-12900 with a mobo for the same cost soon, and stay on ddr4.
If you're upgrading an AM4 board, for gaming performance, this is it chief. Unless of course you need more cores for other tasks.

i went from a 3950x to this, and id say it's worth it. also went from a 1080ti to a 3090 so i def felt a huge difference in performance

For the majority of games you won't notice much of an increase in average fps, but the 1% lows will be much better. Meaning you'll only be getting slightly more fps in most games, but you'll get less stuttering.

I think your advice is the smart play. I've been wrestling to upgrade from a 5600x since it keeps going lower but can't justify it just for better one percent lows. I know it will make games smoother but the games I play don't have issues that need improvement. Thanks for reconfirming! Will wait to see what's next on the horizon and continue to get more value out of my current system.
Depends on what GPU and games you play.
