I would be possibly interested to use as a monitor but looks like it's not great at that

I was able to score the 55 inch version [amazon.com] for $109.99 last year so I'm hopeful/optimistic I can get this deal as well; thx OP.

Regarding the 55 inch, the colors were terrible and all washed out. No matter what I did, I never could get the picture to be acceptable.

However, when I connected a Fire Stick 4K Max and tried to adjust the picture quality while the TV was in the HDMI input for it, picture quality improved extraordinarily. Once I adjusted the Black Level and White Level via the Screen Test app [amazon.com], I saw a big improvement.

I set the Fire Stick 4k Max Display settings to the following before adjusting the picture settings when using the Screen Test app [amazon.com]….

Color Depth = 12bits

Color Format = YCbCr

Dynamic Range Settings = Always HDR

I mention all this because at first the 55 inch version of this deal made an awful impression and I'm assuming that the 43" version will have the same issues.

IMO you can improve picture quality dramatically by not using the built in FireTV OS of these TVs and using a Fire TV 4k Max stick instead.

Thanks for posting, I was about to get one too, for the same purpose, but I need chroma 4:4:4... Did you find any other good option under 150?

This is terrible advice. Don't go over 10-Bit if it's not even a native 10-bit panel.

Also don't force HDR because it'll put SDR content into an HDR content and it'll ruin the picture.

Just go into settings and switch to cinema mode, lower the sharpness, turn off all enhancement settings. That'll fix most of the issues with picture quality.

I have the Fire cube and 4K max stick so good for now but I might try it anyway. Finally DTVstream is getting 4k and has a free Preview week ahead. ( - DirecTV is unlocking MGM Plus and Movies Extra Pack this weekend and all next week, resulting in a double free preview for subscribers.) I watch crummy movies just for the UHD eye candy

And a full-featured $100 at that. It's smart (although this may not be ideal for more privacy-minded users) and it's 4K, which are increasingly expected of television sets, but perhaps not one of this price.

Used television sets are getting stupidly cheap. I bought a 24" set for $15 from a thrift and turned it into a monitor for arcade games. Any time I feel like playing something from the 20th century, I just flip on the set in my computer room, flip the switch on my AtGames Legends, and fire away.
This TV could also make a good vertical aspect monitor for an Atgames Legends Gamer pro running Cox wopr build, https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualp...&context=3
or use it in a virtual pinball fx3, vpx, fp setup. if used like multipurpose gaming tv, you may have to build a special stand or buy this transforming stand for plenty more.

Don't judge, but I already have 2 - 75" outside.
Any tips for protecting the TV outside? I have an area that's covered but the TV would be on the edge of it. Can you use any TV?
Do you cover it most of the time?

Another Amazon scam to get people to join Prime. Then it takes 16 clicks if you ever dare want to cancel. Beware

They do make covers, but I honestly haven't looked into them. I designed my back patio addition with TVs in mind, so area is fully covered. Longevity is more so my concern as the Houston heat and humidity will undoubtedly shorten the lives of the screens.

I've had a TV in a screened in porch for 8 years and it still works fine. It does get rain on it but it's outside. I would never pay for an "outdoor" TV.

My advice was for these specific FireTVs which have a strange/peculiar OS that makes it difficult to adjust the picture properly.

The main thing I wanted to do was adjust brightness and contrast via the Screen test app [amazon.com]; something the default FireTV OS doesn't allow. (Picture can't be adjusted when apps or the GUI is running; only when video is playing)

As for HDR Always; without enabling this on the Firestick 4k Max the picture and GUI have a gray faded tone. Turning on HDR puts the TV in Natural Cinema Mode automatically and the GUI looks more vivid; less faded and gray.

Also switching the Color Format to YCbCr from RGB on the Firestick 4k Max made whites more bright and darks more black for me.

As for the Color Depth; I opted for the max setting thinking that the Firestick 4k Max would only allow the maximum color depth that the device/TV would allow. I wanted the Firestick 4k Max to produce the best picture output for the TV as possible.

Overall, I tried my best to adjust the picture via the built in OS to no avail; picture always had a grey/washed out tone with dull blacks and whites.

It was only when I connected a Firestick 4k Max, changed those aforementioned settings and adjusted brightness and contrast via the Screen Test app [amazon.com] did I see a huge improvement in picture quality. I dare say the picture is on par with my TCL 43 inch that has Dolby Vision; whites really pop and blacks are deep dark.
