Is it just me or does it seem like there is a person listing harbor freight on every applicable post? This one here is saying that hatchet is nice. It is a piece of crap! The plastic handle is horrible and the axe versions are even worse. I had a friend who bought them and I tried them out. Worse things I have ever used. I don't hate harbor freight I buy stuff there. It just seems odd how many times I have been seeing a person posting a comparable item from them in the comments.

I've noticed the same thing but for Costco. They both probably have bot/schill armies in their marketing dept.

Terrible deal on a cheap af axe with basically zero handle material, $10 shipping is a joke.

Got one for the camper and another for the free shipping threshold... and just for fun. SOG makes some decent stuff and some crap. Hoping for the former.

I'd be in with FS, but don't need two. Great for those who can hack it. *zing*

Maybe they were trying to be helpful? Honestly as a person who uses axes and hatchets the one from HF is going to be more useful and cheaper than this tactical SOG. If you want a tactical axe and have little need to split small logs....then the HF version will be your best bet. The SOG might do a better job though at feeling SMALL trees.

BTW, wait until you find out either has a both axes have plastic handles...

The 1-1/4 lb. Hickory Axe (with wooden handle) from harbor freight is nice. You can check my posts. I'm not a die hard fan of harbor freight. I do have some of their stuff.

There is a youtuber that does many reviews of axes and saws. Wranglerstar.
You can check out what he thinks of the about that axe from harbor freight.

The shills on SD (including some of the staff posts, which are usually some seriously bottom-feeding retailers selling straight-up garbage) are bad and getting worse. SD don't care, so long as they get their piece of the pie.

As for the "deal", "new" SOG makes a lot of tacticool, chi-com crap. This seems to be decent as far as materials, but fairly useless as a "camp axe". Probably meant more for LARPers on reddit.

For $5 more you can have the Stainless steel silver and black version on sale at als.com
theyre functionally the same but the silver and black looks so much cooler and freeship over $45
https://www.als.com/sog-camp-axe/p

As far as some comments its not a great camp axe, its small, light, and sharp with a carveout under the blade where you can position your hand for better hand control when stripping bark etc. Looks versatile to me.

Pretty overpriced for a made in China axe. The Fiskars X7 is $35 with free shipping (so same price as this, with shipping) on Amazon everyday and is made in Finland: https://www.amazon.com/Fiskars-X7...B0002YTO7E

I bought a $50 axe and a $25 folding saw, both from fiskars.
I never use the axe. Folding saw is just that much better for camping if that's what you're going for.

If you're trying to live in the woods, you might need an axe to split large amounts of firewood.
Otherwise fallen branches and sticks sawed or broken into good sizes works good enough for a campfire.
