Great price! I had it in my cart last time it was up and was debating it, then it was gone. Jumped on it this time. I wish it was a 17" or 18" instead, as I really like the extra screen real estate more than extra portability, but at this price I'll go for it anyway.

Got it down to about $970 (+tax, which came out to a total of $1028.40) with the ARMMPPS coupon and the 10% off AAA discount coupon they send you by email when you enter your email in here https://www.dell.com/en-us/lp/mpp-aaa

Personally I think this offer is better than the M17 R5 one. RTX 3070Ti vs. RTX 3060, 1TB SSD vs 512GB SSD. In addition, I do not like M17's 1080p resolution. I prefer this one's 2K

Any idea why it gives two different weights?

Lowest weight: 5.34 lbs. (2.42 kgs.)
Maximum weight: 5.93 lbs. (2.69 kgs.)

That's a half pound difference.

I'm looking for a thinner, lighter gaming laptop for my wife, but this is a great deal!
Different GPU with corresponding cooling system?

Yeah, I felt the same way. I ended up buying both but with all the coupons and cash back the m17 ended up being $560 before tax

Your m17 after tax is about $600. This one after tax 1030-120(amex)-100(CB)-10(CB) is around $800. These better hardware costs worth the $200 difference

Helped a friend buy this one a month ago. Other than the smaller screen with 240hz , is this Alienware any better than the HP omen?
I considered that one too, especially since it's 17". This Alienware is of course smaller, has a larger 1TB SSD compared to the 512GB of the Omen, and has a higher refresh rate screen with higher brightness (I think it might be 400 nits, would have to look back to be sure, the Omen's is 300 nits), I'm not sure if the Omen's screen has G-sync or not, but the Alienware does.
The Alienware is cheaper also.

Best to upgrade memory to 32gb or say f it and max it out?

Any suggestions on future proofing this?

Never had a gaming laptop before.

My son wants this so he can connect a VR headset and play Steam VR on this platform. Are you saying this won't work? Pretty sure most current VR headsets require a DisplayPort connection to PC.
I read that g-sync requires a displayport. Do only 5% of users need g-sync?

The primary difference between the two is that FreeSync works over both HDMI and DisplayPort (and over USB-C). However, G-Sync only works with DisplayPort, unless you use a G-Sync compatible gaming monitor or display. However, the company is working on changing this and soon.

That might help.

How much TDP this laptop has? Omen has 150 w.
