Some drill bits are designated as "impact" style - for impact drivers. Does it actually make sense to use an impact driver with drill bits, though?

Probably not but it might be nice that they lock in to the chuck? I haven't used them before since I have a driver and a drill.

Not really, though some people prefer to use an impact for drilling because of the quick change chuck and it allows them to only carry the impact driver instead of both a drill and a driver.

However, hex shank drill bits in an impact driver aren't held securely centered like round/hex bits in a drill's 3-jaw chuck are, hex shanked bits aren't available in nearly as many sizes, styles and materials, and hex shanked bits often have quality problems at the hex/round junctions.

I agree, I have almost full Ryobi line 18v line (including tools I most likely never going to touch like a greese gun). But their drill bits are beyond terrible.

I recently tried one of their masonry bits. It MELTED about 1/4" into a cinder block.

Bought a set of Ryobi black oxide bits a couple of years ago, the worst bits I have ever owned, broke easily, had trouble going through even soft pine. I called company, the guy laughed and refunded my money without having to return the bits, they know they are junk!

Big fan of Ryobi tools, but their black oxide bits are the worst! Take my word.

I bought one of these sets a little while back. If you are expecting cheap bits that will wear out or break rather quickly, you won't be disappointed.

Got these a few months ago to finally replace a 20+ year old set and broke one within the first 3 minutes of use. I've got a lot of good stuff from Ryobi lately but these drill bits are complete crap.

This set sucks. I tried drilling some pilot holes and they snapped without applying any pressure. I recommend dewalt bits rather than these.
