Like with all Hue bulbs, it has bluetooth which offers limited features, but it is compatible with the Hue Bridge which will enable full functionality.

I didn't even know they used bt - I thought it was hub or nothing.

I unfortunately moved into a newer home where I can't take advantage of my large, amassed collection of these BR30 hue bulbs so I might resell some or all of them. This price is wayyy too high imo. If you're okay with hunting around on eBay or Amazon warehouse for some open box or used ones for a fraction of the price, do that instead. That's pretty much how I got 90% of my hue bulbs (including the non BR30s)--save for some I had no choice to get brand new, that were bundled with other things (like echo's or dimmer remotes), and the occasional rare awesome deal on new bulbs. It was still pretty expensive in the end, but worth it for the sheer reliability and ecosystem. These are definitely the "Apple" of the smart home industry in terms of paying out the ass for things, but just work.

Now if only they updated their EIGHT year old hub with all it's hardware limitations, Hue would be even easier to recommend.

Philip Hues. I haven't found an alternative that work as seamlessly and quick as Hues. Yes, it's more money but it works so much better and easier for those least tech savvy in your household to use (something I don't think many think about).

On a recent remodel, I saved thousands of dollars going with Lumary lights over Hue. I've had hues for years, and couldn't be happier, but the remodel used a ton of down lights since I prefer a bunch of dimmer lights than a few lights turned to 100%.

Everything is voice/motion controlled, and I couldn't be happier. haven't touched a single light switch since the install.

Before I made the decision, I swapped out our bedroom lights from Hue to Lumary in order to make sure I was going to be happy. Once the initial setup is done through the app, they are almost indistinguishable from hue.

Lumary also has a very very large selection of different lights, so if you are just illuminating accent walls, art, etc, they make non intrusive swivel adjustables that allow you to aim them. Their normal downlights also come in different angles.

Super easy to install, and they work off wifi. I have over 100 of them, and so far so good, not a single failure after 7 months. Also, Lumary worked with me on a large bulk purchase right from their website.
