How is this compared to the PNY 3060 12gb Virto?

I don't think the extra video memory will really help in the lower end. Usually more helpful at higher resolutions.

Might be helpful if you do emulation.

8 gigs can only do 1080p medium/ high quality in the various upcoming games, but older games should be fine. Developers want to use higher and higher quality textures, so there is a natural industry push make 8 gig obsolete. I think this is a good upgrade for people playing their favorite games from 2016 with a graphics card like a 1060 from that old era. Those games will play buttery smooth. For those who want to play a future game, like GTA 6, it might only do 1080 medium or even low quality.

I have 1660ti and i play all my 1080p games at high setting, it can push 1440p even 4k games on my sony tv.

It feels like people always are underselling these cards. I think 3060ti should be able to push all 1080p games with high ultra, even 4k with good fps.

If a 3060ti doesnt play 1080p game at ultra. I would wait a few more years until there is a big enough leap before upgrading a gpu

Unfortunately it's not that black and white in most games youll be fine with as little as 4gb video memory.
I build and have built hundreds of pcs and have tested hundreds of cards on hundreds of games. a gtx 780 4gb will run destiny at 4k medium settings 30 fps and that card is old af.

With that being said, if I were to build a desktop, do you recommend that I go for a 3080/4080 type of card, so it can potentially last me a long time?

I wouldn't buy it for that reason but some people are the type to hold onto hardware for a long time.

I always just suggest to buy what you can reasonably afford, more is usually better, unless you have something specific your after and trying to be frugal, that's the best approach.

This deal isn't completely dead. I've been checking every day for the last few days and it's always been OOS. Today I got lucky and it was back in stock for shipping only. I was able to purchase one. YMMV.
