Imagine asking this question when the wealth of human knowledge is at your finger tips. Since Google-ing is hard- It's a fermented drink created from black tea (most of the time) and a symbiotic relationship between bacteria and yeast.

There's a decent amount of sugar in these, FYI. I don't believe the hype at all and I wouldn't consider these health drinks but I do drink them occasionally since I like the taste.

2 dollars/per is a good price.
