I wish I could play Alan Wake for the 1st time. It is incredible. Played it way back in 2010 when it originally released. Just a master piece. Recently played control as a friend told me they were in same universe, and while it was very good, it was not like playing Alan Wake for the 1st time.

CoD Cold War campaign wasn't particularly good. Felt weird having a hub, and choosing missions. Should have just been linear. No need for the hub, where you interact with NPC's.

Last CoD I played before that was WWII, and I don't think it had that.

Alan Wake has been a game I always wanted to play, I was close to buying it cheap on steam but my backlog is long enough so held off. Lucky me.

Play it then play Control which is free if you have PSPlus premium (I think that's what it's called). Apparently they're in the same universe. I've never played Alan Wake but will now that it's free!

I played it for the first time recently and thought it was very good. I'm usually not into narrative driven games but I enjoyed the story.

I don't know why they are turning the upcoming sequel into a survival horror game.

The team making AW2 said that while it is a survivor horror game that the narration will still drive the game. They are focusing on that still while adding more gameplay elements. Not 100% sure if that's true as there is no demo yet but that's what they have repeatedly said.
