Very bad battery life on this.
Nice. Been watching that Pavilion Plus 14. Lots of folks asking me for recommendations for their kids going off to college, this is a good one.
I have the 2022 version of this notebook with a 12th gen i7, RTX 2050, and OLED screen. The build quality is half a step down from an EliteBook (fairly good) but there is a bit of chassis flex. The battery life is straight up garbage for a modern non-gaming laptop. I'm lucky to get 5 hours browsing the internet on mid/low brightness. Last week I started noticing an intermittent issue where the laptop wouldn't recognize it was plugged in and thus wouldn't charge the battery. It's currently with HP for RMA repair. We'll see whether they can fix it for me.

WIth first responder discount this comes down for ~627 for the OLED model. Very tempting.

Only thing spec wise that catches my eye is the relatively small battery.

How does this compare screen and build wise to the Asus Zenbook OLED at Best Buy for $800? I can't seem to find any reviews of the Pavillion plus for 2023.

I have the same concern with the battery, may not last long with the H processor and OLED screen depending on how its used. My other concern is the silver keyboard even with being backlit, I always prefer black for ease of use.

If you leave the IPS screen and bump up the SSD to 512 it's $659 (before any first responder or other discounts). I think that's a good deal -- it's still 2.2k 16:10, 300nits, low blue light, and a lot easier on the battery

SSDs are cheap. Why would I trade 256gb for the OLED? Just to save some battery?

Here's a review of the older model with 12tb gen i7. Says battery life is bad. https://www.theverge.com/23440913...res-design

Good point on the SSD, could just do the $599 model and upgrade the SSD after. Yes to save battery, depending on what you need. Lugging this around campus all the time battery is important. I kno OLED is gorgeous but the 2.2k IPS is very good and is perfectly fine for a college laptop

If it's for school I think you can find a better deal with better battery life with a 1235U, 1255U, 1260P or 13th gen equivalent.

Rather surprising there's no thunderbolt or USB4.

Thanks, ordered with the OLED and a 512 ssd. Hits what I was prioritizing for portable software development: size, display, processor, keyboard.

Probably due to poor thermals since having either option will allow for connecting an egpa or multiple 4k monitors

Last year model with 12th gen chip has like a 3 hour battery life, this probably is still the case with this year model.
