Canon has a 1 year manufacturer's warranty and Amazon is listed as one of Canon's Authorized Dealers, "who are required to meet our high customer service and support standards".
Canon's site (source link below) also says that an Authorized Dealer provides "comprehensive support for Canon product warranties". I informed Amazon about this, but they would not honor Canon's 1-year warranty and charged me a restocking/return fee despite my R6 being in the 1-year warranty window. I subsequently contacted Canon and had I purchased directly from them, they would have honored the replacement and it would have been completely covered.
In summary:
To get a replacement, the item needs to be purchased through Canon.
For repairs, also contact Canon.
Could be wise to purchase directly from Canon instead so you can utilize your 1 year warranty and deal with less back-and-forth and headache.

EDIT: I checked my emails, and others here are correct: you do have the option to send in your equipment to the repair facility.
Here was Canon's response when I requested help: "Thank you for the response. The 1-800-652-2666 number is the Canon USA technical support phone number. That number can only provide instructions on sending the item in for repair. Since item was not purchased directly through Canon we cannot set-up a replacement. We can only set-up replacements if the item is purchased directly through Canon. We do not sell through Amazon, so if you want to set-up a replacement you would need to contact the Amazon seller."
After that, I showed Canon a screenshot on Amazon's site that said, "For Support, talk to the manufacturer and call 1-800-652-2666"
Through Amazon's Return Portal, the camera was not eligible for return and you need to call Amazon Support to get help. Amazon Support then said that the return window expired, so to claim my warranty I needed to contact Canon, or .
The last response from Canon:
I'm sorry but we do not provide authorization for third party dealers to replace Canon products. If Amazon has informed you to contact Canon since you're return window is closed, then you may send in your equipment to the repair facility for repair but the facility will not replace units if requested by the customer.
Please note that items purchased directly from Canon USA or from an Authorized Canon Dealer do include a one year warranty if the item was purchased less than a year ago. You may view a list of Authorized Canon Dealers by clicking on the following link CLICK HERE]. There are third party dealers who are not authorized dealers who will sell Canon products through Amazon. Unfortunately, these purchases do not include the one year Canon USA warranty.
If the camera was purchased from an Authorized Canon Dealer which it was, Amazon is on the Authorized Canon Dealer List, then please include a copy of your Proof of Purchase in the box with your equipment. On your Amazon account, it would be listed as the invoice when reviewing your order.
You may send in your equipment to our repair facility for repair. The repair facility will provide a repair estimate for repair if the unit is not covered under warranty. In case you are unable to process a repair request per the instructions provided to you on 4/14/2021, then please fill out the attached repair form and include it inside the box with your equipment.
The facility will evaluate the equipment based on the information you provide on the repair form and send you a repair estimate by email if the equipment is not covered under warranty. You may approve or decline the repair upon receiving the repair estimate. In case you decide to decline the repair, the unit will be returned to you at no cost.
If you'd like, you may reply back with a copy of your Proof of Purchase to allow to help you verify if the camera was sold by an authorized dealer.
FINALLY:
I shared this information with Amazon, but
1) the Supervisor I spoke with was not even aware of Amazon being an Authorized Canon Dealer. They would not look at the link I provided and did not care
2) would charge me a $500 restocking fee for returning the item, and
3) essentially said they would not budge on their policy regardless of Canon's manufacturer's warranty.
