It is true about the bugs. Every time I'd ordered nishiki from amazon it's had them, but I can go down to the local H mart or whole foods and the rice is clean, and the same price.

There's nothing special about the price on this item, no idea why it's even being discussed on SD right now
Yes the bugs is less about the brand more about the merchant and how they store stuff.

Its ants and other pests that are in your rice.
It's the actual rice grains some are dark brown others have very dark brown spot on them (not like the hull wasn't taken off, just the grain is discolored and weird.). It's not like the rice even sits around long as 10lbs is gone in 2 weeks if that.

Got this last time. Not as sticky as true sticky rice, but sticker than regular long grain, which I like.

Yes this is definitely more stickier than other rice, even after 3xwashing. Which is a good thing when you are in the mood! Recently I love to cook basmati long grain in my rice cooker, adding a splash of olive oil and a pinch of salt. Similar price point even for a 2lg bag in WM.

This rice is similar to calrose which is sticky goodness! In addition to sushi and musubi, I use it for pretty much all of my Chinese and Japanese meals. For Thai food I use jasmine and for Indian I use basmati. Yes, I really like rice and tend to keep about 8 different types in my house. Nishiki at $1 per pound is a definite buy. Make sure to store it a sealed container to keep it fresh and pest free.

Ok. Seems to be a lot of confusion about types of rice in here.

This is sushi rice primarily made for making sushi rolls. I also use it for Poke Bowls.

Glutinous Rice=Sticky Rice which contains more sugars. It is used in many Thai Style and dessert dishes. Glutinous Rice is soaked for hours, then steamed in a wicker basket (or wired screen if you don't have a wicker basket) to achieve a sticky consistency.

Jasmine Rice is what most Asian restaurants serve with meals. It is a long grain. This is what you see at Costco/Sams Club in the 25-50lbs bags. Basmati or Long Grain rice are comparable.

Ordered a bunch last time at similar price but for some reason this rice (not expired) has random black or brown specs in it where my 15lb bags of Nishiki from the grocery store are clean... I don't get it.
Thanks for the heads up! When Amazon needs to dump a bad batch they can end up as a slick deal. Rice polishing takes days so those specs should have been caught. It could be small pieces of rock or insect.

Chef here this is not sushi rice but you can still enjoy it for sushi.

After you wash it let it soak in the cooking water for 30 minutes before cooking. Instant pot high pressure @11 minutes, natural pressure release and then fluff. This stuff pretty decent.

I personally buy their Haiga rice which is is hybrid white/brown(hull removed but germ is left in tact).Texture, digestibility and flavor closer to white but has added nutrients of brown. Also, since the hull is removed the arsenic concerned are lowered.

Who in the world eats uncooked rice anyway? Everyone I know cooks it.

Can eat like normal rice or is just for sushi?
I don't know what these other responses are... but I eat this with everything and it's great. Taste is great.
