Really good product at a really great price for what you get in today's day and age. Kingsford professional is around $20-22 for 36 lbs. I would consider this a superior product.

It's cheaper for a reason.

If it's important to you, Royal Oak only uses oak dust and a vegetable (corn, potato, etc) starch as a binder. Kingsford has both and also with lime, borax, and actual mined coal.

In my opinion, the is the best big brand of lump charcoal. Kingsford is fine but I prefer this. Cowboy is best avoided, as the couple times I've bought it there was a ton of dust and multiple rocks in each bag, and it smelled terrible. Royal Oak burns consistently long and hot, and imparts a nice flavor on whatever you cook. I use pellets the vast majority of the time now, but if I don't I look for RO. Great deal.

Bought four bags a few weeks ago. Produces a lot of fine ash. So much ashes that you can't smoke meat using the serpentine method because it can close off the vent openings. Lights quickly, burns hotter than Kingsford standard. Kingsford standard produces a third of the amount of ash.
