I have about 15 within a 10-mile radius from me and it rarely has any value during these deals because no one location has all three items at their location to use the deal. And they won't transfer the items to other stores. They'll pull up a list of inventory and tell you which store has them to go to. And when you say, "I want to buy all three together for the deal," the best answer they've got is "¯\_(ヅ)_/¯ S.O.L."

MEANWHILE, the online store pulls inventory from all their locations, so if you order three items for shipping, they'll play game roulette between the stores to get it all into one package, in whatever the condition its in, and sent it your way.

Better to just wait for a Gamefly used sale. They guarantee packaging and undamaged discs.

Last time I went to Gamestop I wanted to purchase 2 PS5 games but only one was in their buy 1 get 1 free sale so I asked the clerk if I could buy 2 copies of the same new game and then trade in one to use that credit to get the game I wanted. They said I could not do that. I asked why. They said I could not open a sealed game they just sold me and trade it in. I told him what if I stepped outside and opened the game, walked back in and traded it in. He said he could not give me credit for it. This is the reason I last bought a game from them around 10 years ago.

TLDR: Gamestop does not want to make money.

You don't have multiple Gamestop stores within a reasonable driving distance or couldn't come back to the same store in 20 minutes to trade in the other copy? Though since you asked and if it was the same person they likely would have denied the trade-in.

More like the employee doesn't want to get in trouble in the event that allowing such a trade-in is against policy. You can't blame someone for not wanting to get in trouble and potentially lose their job.

I'm in Chicago so we have GameStops within miles but the point is why make it hard on the customer who wants to purchase a product. I'm not blaming the employee for following GameStops policy, what I am saying is the policy of not being able to trade in a game because I purchased it from them is counter to them making money.

Not to mention employees have done shlt like that many times before. No one is getting fired over it unless it's abusive.
Gamestop logic... if you try to trade a system without a controller, they make you buy one, which they take off their shelf, unbox, and trade in.

I mean I have bought items at one location and traded them in at the next or come back 20-30 minutes later to the same one saying that I didn't like it and got told that I could only get trade credit for it.

You just have to use a little finesse and waste a little time sometimes.

That's a completely different situation though. In that instance the customer is bringing in something that is incomplete to try trading in. So it's either they charge a refurbishment fee for the cost of replacing the missing original equipment OR the customer buys it off the shelf to pair up with the item.

The situation is like a customer trying to sell a car dealer a used vehicle missing a major component (i.e. steering wheel).
