Yeah, It's happened a couple of times for me, both ways. I buy the game and it appears on Humble. I get the humble bundle for 1-2 games and it goes on sale super low.
But for the most part, staying a patient gamer has certainly save me $$.
Always check AllKeyShop (https://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/en-us/) first. There might be even lower prices at other key stores. Also, AKS often has coupon codes for said stores.

Never had any issues personally - even before all the patches. FPS seems more stable since tho.
Let this be a warning that what you described is what happens with the main game on HB monthly x CDKeys pretty often.

Fun game, no idea how it get bad reviews. People are nuts
