Is there anything worth buying? Looked at catalog and this is all overpriced junk. $104 scissor ? $98 tape dispenser?
Anyone see anything good? Even for free this just looks like junk.
Now's your chance to own a 23kt GOLD plated set of scissors for $1!

I have a new update from them. I asked for an official explanation instead of the canned response and here is what I got back:

We launched a credit card promotion on June 30th, 2023 that offered American Express customers the opportunity to "spend $100, get $100 back.". Within hours, our site was swamped by thousands of orders, most placed at the bare minimum required to receive the promotional payout. Unfortunately, the sheer number of minimum orders placed within the first four hours is enough to financially ruin our business. As a result, we have been forced to cancel all outstanding orders while we work to resolve the matter in a way that honors our customers and allows The Elegant Office to remain a viable business.

We understand that many of you placed orders in good faith and are no doubt upset and disappointed with The Elegant Office. We are disappointed too. Please know that we are striving to work through this issue and ask for your patience and understanding.

Thanks,

John

I like the implication that simply redeeming an offer as described is in "bad faith".

They still havent refunded me. I might ask since my order was for a little over $100

I guess that's an improvement over calling them fraudulent orders like they were before. They haven't refunded me either, has anyone who has not contacted them received a refund? We shouldn't have to contact them just to get our money back for an order they aren't shipping out.

It shouldn't be this difficult to get a refund, this is taking up too much of my time, just called Amex to charge back the merchant and I can finally be done with this "deal". I should have known better, if it smells like a fish

New scam from this company.

I ordered the $101 scissors. Got the $100 Amex offers credit.

They canceled the $101 scissors order (refunded). Now they've charged $100 (for nothing) knowing Amex will give us the $100 back. So they are stealing $100 from Amex. For non-existent orders.

I'm calling Amex to show them this. Everyone else do the same. Check your statements.

UPDATE: Called Amex. The $100 charge from "ElegantOffice" is not from ElegantOffice. It is from Amex, taking back the $100 amex offer.

But instead of putting "Amex Offer Reversal: ElegantOffice" as the description, they just put "ElegantOffice", making it confusing because it looks like its a charge coming from ElegantOffice.

In that case ElegantOffice didn't cover the initial $100 offer credit, Amex did. So they are just keeping 100% of the cash from the orders they took in until you call in. Again don't call them. Just file a charge back when you get your statement from Amex if they still haven't refunded you, their account gets docked this way.

In my case, everything (the order's charge AND the Amex Offer credit) reversed on their own.

Just spoke to the owner on the phone for some time. Honestly felt pretty bad for the guy, apparently this was supposed to be a spend $225 get $100 off promo that was mis-typed. right now they're focused on getting everyones money back, and potential pursuing legal action with Amex

Their payments vendor has flagged them for fraud, but told me most refunds should be back by tomorrow and if not, he urged me to file a chargeback with amex. Which makes me believe this guy is genuine, why even deal with the mess of that if you know the hit you'll get with thousands of chargebacks. Regardless, is what it is. hopefully everyone get their money back.

We placed orders on July 1st, if they knew the very next day they wouldn't be shipping out the orders why not give everyone immediate refunds? How can it take over 2 weeks and counting to return people their money?

I'll give them a pass on this as they might have gotten so many orders that they did not know how and/or have the resources to weed through and cancel only orders associated with this or fulfill orders that they could absorb ($500+ etc).

That said, as of today they still have not refunded me the 2 orders that were placed and only see the $100 credit from Amex.

If you ask me these guys have proven to be amateurs at best, and that is giving them the benefit of the doubt. Are you telling me that they couldn't have at least sent a courtesy email in the two weeks since this all happened? I could write a query in 15 minutes that would identify all of these orders. This is not rocket science, and if they are so incompetent, they probably should not be in business. They undoubtedly are trying to figure out who to blame so they don't look like fools, or even get sued. I am also skeptical that Amex just made a typo on the offer either. I think they just did not anticipate websites like slickdeals that love to 'maximize' these types of deals! Peace

Agreed. I can see them wanting to keep the money from customers who forget about the order, don't check their statement and request a charge back. Remember they were blaming fraudulent orders previously, now they are saying they entered the wrong amount for the offer. The story keeps changing.

Just got this email:

Dear Elegant Office Customer:

In our 23 years in business, we have always prided ourselves on delivering the highest level of customer service. Unfortunately, on June 30th 2023, we missed the mark as a credit card promotion was launched in error. This resulted in orders that we could not fulfill without going out of business. The promotion was "Spend a $100, get a $100" but should have had a minimum redemption value of $225. As a small business with a handful of employees, we normally process 30-50 orders per day. Within hours of the promotion launch, we had 1900 orders with an average order total of $104.83.

We initially tried to fulfill the orders.. However, due to inventory constraints and our free shipping policy over $75, we realized that this promotion was not sustainable to our small organization. With much disappointment, we were forced to cancel the promotion and any outstanding orders. On July 7, 2023, we began manually processing returns for unfulfilled orders which took approximately 34 man hours. We have currently processed refunds for all the transactions that were not shipped.

Due to the large volume of refunds, our payment processor is reviewing the validity of some of these refunds. This is delaying the credit posting to a handful of customers' credit card accounts. Hopefully, these outstanding refunds will be resolved over the next 5 business days.

We are aware that our company has been negatively reviewed on several online forums, and rightly so. We are in the process of modifying our internal promotion processes and marketing partnerships so that this does not happen again in the future.

Please accept our deepest apologies.

You mean "take advantage of these types of mistakes".

Whats the taking advantage of? People followed the offer requirements so not sure what the problem is? No one manipulated anything to take "advantage" of anything. Getting something for cheap/free doesnt mean someone is taking advantage of anything.

This is exactly what I said in my earlier post. They didn't like that most orders were under $110. Their definition of "good faith" order is we buy their $500 garbage can and get $100 off through AMEX. These people are pathetic. Tell them to shove their $100 scissors up theirs. Mad
