Also as an FYI, Criterion discs do not come with 'digital codes' for streaming. (i.e. no MoviesAnywhere, etc). They obtain the rights to the content and restore and present the best version possible. As I mentioned there is the Criterion Channel which like many online services 'cycles' through their collection.

The disc packages are often high-quality cardboard sleeve systems or boxes, and may come with high-quality printed books of essays and analysis of the movie, director, actors and other historical information. Their box sets are sometimes quite a piece of art.

B&N (Barnes & Noble) just announced their 50% off sale also. If there is still a B&N retail store near you, they have a section dedicated to Criterion discs, or can order from them online.

Also for streaming, Criterion Channel is a great service, you will have a never-ending collection of various old, art, international movies, as well as background documentaries. I think it's $89/yr.

EDIT wanted to add that I was just shopping the B&N site and was able to find everything I wanted at a local store, so I think I will do in-store pickup. Another store had all but one I was looking for. So the good news is that if you have a B&N open in your area it's likely to have a well-stocked collection of Criterion discs and they even had the very recent releases.

You either know what the Criterion Collection means for a movie or you don't. If you don't, then these releases aren't for you.

Edit: sometimes you know what they are, and they still aren't for you.

Amazon in the past has randomly added coupons to some titles (varies from day to day) -- making their prices less than half price.

The Criterion streaming service looks like a good deal. You get access to the library.

Harikari is a fantastic movie and it's considered one of the best samurai movies out there. Especially for one that wasn't directed by Kurasowa. It's also on sale for $19.99:
